For me, one of the characteristics I think is important, or at least more important than I realized last year, is the age of the coach.

I don't mean to discriminate, but after listening to BP the last couple of years, you really do better appreciate the pressure, work hours, year-round focus this job requires.

I'm not saying someone who is "older" can't get the job done, but I suppose all things being equal, someone who is younger and can stick around for atleast 4-6 years is preferable.

Obviously, the other characteristic I would look for is previous success, either as a college and/or NFL HC, or a DC or OC in the NFL.

What other characteritics are important?

Number one is they need to be fat. Talking with a Southern accent is a plus. A pencil thin moustache is the icing on the cake.

Somebody like this guy.

My head coach needs to be a great leader, great game manager, great motivator.... and smart enough to know that you have to have AWESOME assistant coaches and talent evaluators/developers to be successful... and smart enough to let those great assistants do their jobs.

If we pick up Norv Turner as our HC, I want to see a top notch DC hired as well. If Wade Phillips is brought in as HC, I want to see a top notch OC hired as well.
