What defense were we in on the 2nd Touchdown?

I was trying to figure out what Defense the Cowboys were in on the Vikings 2nd Touchdown play.

I looked to me like Bradie James was responsible for that area in the middle.

When Brett Favre started to scramble, he forgot his responsibility and started to blitz Brett Favre, leaving the middle wide open.

it was a busted play...plays we have seen Romo make like that 100 times. If Marcus Spears could just figure out how to get a 40 year old QB on the ground that TD never happens. Solid players like James, Spears, Brookings, Newman are fine when you are playing from ahead... .but all of their warts are evident in a game like yesterday. Jason Williams needs to show next year. We need more speed on boths sides of the ball. Especially at WR an ILB

How about giving the Vikings credit for a well conceived play.
it was a busted play....Spears is right there for the sack....instead of running through the QB and putting him on a stretcher, he got pump faked off his feet.

Jenkins was covering him until he stayed in to help protect and was knocked down, then Jenkins bailed out to cover someone else. When he got back up, he was left uncovered.

did you see the Jets last night? THat is a mentality. And I am not a Wade basher so I will leave Wade out of this. But either Spears is a moron...or we just don't coach them up right. Spears is a big ugly...when you are a big ugly and the QB is 1 foot from you....you punish him and make him think about you the REST of the game

It was man coverage with Jenkins responsible for Rice. Rice motioned in from out wide and Jenkins followed him. At the snap, Rice blocked down and Jenkins saw this. When Favre started to scramble to the right Jenkins left Rice and started moving right with Favre. This allowed Rice to then slip uncovered into the middle and Favre found him. If Jenkins sticks with his assignment or Spears just runs through Favre instead of becoming a helicopter, they probably don't score there.

I couldn't stomach watching anymore football after the egg we layed. The outcome of the Jets game suggest that they were motivated and played inspired football like we were playing in the four games previous to this disaster.

I've never quite understood pump fakes making guys leave their feet.

More often than not, the pump fake does just that and the qb always manages to get the pass off RATHER than the pass being blocked.

I'd teach my D Linemen to just run through the QB. Yep, he might complete the pass....but at a very high price.

Spears running through Favre? Favre might still be on the turf.

I fairly certain the defender who missed Favre was Spencer. Its a tough play to make, wish he'd have made it.

It was a well designed play. Like most plays Favre had multiple option, Rice was just one of them. That ploy to get him uncovered was planned. The player engages a defender as a blocker, falls down, rolls over a runs a pattern.
Very effective but nothing I haven't seen before.

It wasn't Spencer because he was on the only Cowboy anywhere near Rice as he was running into the endzone.

I think we were in the "If your guy motions in to throw a block and is knocked to the ground, go help somewhere else, because if he has time to get back up and run downfield, and the QB has time to find him, then your pass rush is a complete failure" defense.

you had to go there....did you watch Rex's boyz? Again, I did not want to call Wade on this...but the Steelers, Ravens, some teams are TAUGHT that anytime you are NEAR a QB....you kill him. It is an attitude. An attitude of NASTINESS!!!!!!

it was Spears....who is an average player...Spencer might have been the best player on the field last night for Dallas...and we have been saying that for like 4 weeks in a row.

Yep, it's all about attitude...and killer instinct.

Sorta like going for it on fourth and less than one yard in the first quarter.

I do wish our guys would get more nasty about how they attack QBs. Sacks and all that are fine, and I love when we get them, but we need to be trying to kill QBs everytime we get near them.
