What do we know about the NFC East?

At this point...

Dallas: lost to a very good team at Jax, whips a putrid Portis-less Commander team, whips a hapless Titan team. Who are we? We still commit too many penalties and our defense isn't shutting teams down like we'd like. Is it the D that shut down Jax in the first quarter or the D that looked like swiss cheese in the 3rd? We still don't know if we have a killer instinct to put a foot on a team's throat because I'm not sure if Tennessee even counts. Seems like we're getting better every week, or it could be that the quality of teams we're playing has been getting worse. Hard to say at this point. Perhaps it has taken some time for TO-adjustment and OL meshing?

Wash: looks dead and buried until the Texans game. Had another chance to be buried against Jax but resurge and all of a sudden look like they actually have a chance in the division again. Beat teams with incessant passes in the flat, screens, and short passes out of the backfield, much like Philly. Here is Wash, loses to us, then beats a tough Jax team which beat us soundly. Looks like they finally got on track offensively but defense is still pretty underwhelming, esp given the billing.

Philly:
Looks dominant against a lot of bad teams. Has a monumental collapse against a team that we still don't know about. How good is philly? Obviously they are good, but how good? They still use the same formula for success...incessant short passes in the flat to Westbrook, a little Mcnabb scrambling, and LJ Smith. Defense is much better than last year, but is that because of the opponents so far this year?

NYG: Pretty enigmatic team...has a lot of talent. Eli looks like a superstar for a few quarters every now and then, then goes back to looking like a Manning in a playoff game. Tiki hasn't been used as much as he should. Plax, Toomer, and Shockey are a ridiculously talented bunch but malcontents playing with an erratic QB and **** coach. The defense has been porous so far and mostly listless. Picked most to win the division...but this team could be sub .500, .500, or win the division if they get rolling. They hold their own against a tough Indy team, show Jeckyl and Hyde against Philly. Overall, the only thing I can say is they look confused as a team and still need to find themselves. But given their cast of malcontents...that could elude them the entire year.

So what do we know about the NFC East? I honestly think that we don't know a thing. I'm glad that we caught Wash when we did but I expect the next game with them to be a dogfight. They are a different team now.
The NYG and Skins play this weekend and we play Philly. Both games will be true measuring sticks I think. I don't think we currently know anything definitive about the NFC east but we're about to....

Unfortunately I think Springs return will have the same impact on the other side of the ball as did Portis's return. Williams has been far less agressive then IMO he would be with Springs manning the corner. I think Springs will also have a impact in run defense at least to his side.

Question is not when he comes back but if he gets healthy.

I don't think Philly uses a 'little' McNabb. McNabb makes huge plays for them at critical spots. He reserves his runs for later in the game when first downs are like gold. He is really the key to their offensive scheme.

One thing I see is that the teams in the NFC EAST, for the most part, are winning the games they are supposed to win. I am mainly focusing on the games outside of the division.

Not too many people had Dallas winning in Jacksonville, and Washington was favored to win against Minnesota at home.

And Washington got a gift win last Sunday.

I am not so sure of our defense, but I really like our offense. IMHO Philly and Giants have weak secondaries. That is a big problem when they go against a team the has TG, TO and Witten. The TO effect is just starting to show itself. Just wait till TO and Bledsoe get some chemistry.
