What do you consider a "reasonable" time frame

for BP to let JJ know whether he's going to coach the Cowboys or not?

IMO, I think 2 weeks from the end the season (i.e., from last Sunday) is reasonable.

Clearly, a lot of work needs to be done with respect to the needs of this franchise, possibilities in FA with respect to both players and coaches, etc.

I would think that if we wanted to possibly upgrade any coaches on our roster we would want to be in a position to do it by end of January latest. As such, the "braintrust" would need to get together at least several weeks before to review candidates.

I think waiting until late February/March, for example, does not bode well if BP were to leave and we were trying to attract FAs or had to suddenly change philosophy.

Opinions?

Agree with 2 weeks. Cowboys can get many things done w/o his presence administratively like just resigning all our PS players, etc. But would be real unhappy should it extend beyond end of January cause decisions need to be made on whom to keep on the team, trade, cut, & that includes reviewing film etc.

I think you are dead on we should know something in 2-3 weeks. This organization is hungry and will be making some big moves this offseason. If they can pull off the same kind of offseason magic, next year will be ours for the taking.

RT, C, K, LB, FS is what we need really bad

I would think Jones and the organization will need to know for sure soon after the SB ends if not before that time.

one week......two at the most. no sense dragging it out.
if moves need to be made give us as much time as possible
to get them done.

If BP drags this out it would mean to me that quite possibly his heart isn't in the job - at least the way it was last off-season.

I don't think it would mean anything. Most NFL business is not going to take place until after the SB is played. I think Bill will announce his intention sometimes before the SB takes place or right after.

Like, Yesterday. This waiting is BS and it obviously means he is thinking about either moving on or retiring.

Most of the top assistant coaches are in the playoffs right now anyway, so what's the rush???

We can't contact any of them until the Super Bowl's over. So no panic.

It'd be nice to have BP back one more year, but if he's going to leave after that, then may as well get a head start on the Post-BP era.

Im in no hurry.

I think a reasonable time frame is one that will not affect FA's decisios to come here and before the Draft.

The sooner the better. There are alot of open jobs out there. If a team loses in the playoffs and there is a possible coaching candidate on their team, we will lose out.

IF BP is considering moving on...I would bet he will wait to see if Edwards leaves to KC. If he does then I would think that may be the ONLY position he will consider, unless it's a front office job in NY somewhere.

His home is in NY...it only makes sense to me. If not NY as HC of the Jets why move to another team when he has so much invested here???

Must be done within two weeks, better if by the end of this week.

As playoff teams lose and are out, their coaches become available.

I am confident BP would have informed JJ if he had decided to retire after the season. I think he has not decided to retire. Has he decided to return next year? He said (and I believe) he will not coach another team. I think he is speaking honestly when he says he'll wait until someof the emotion settles and then make a decision. I think he will decide to return next year. I think he likes this team. I think he knows this team is very close to being a dominant one. A better kicker. A better free safety. A better right tackle. Add some young studs and we'll be set.
