What do you do if Lawerence comes out hot at RDE?

Broddus seems to think Lawrence will stay where he is and Hardy will rotate with Mincey on the opposite side.

Once all the rulings and appeals process is complete, we're likely looking at a 2 game suspension.

I think you rotate Lawrence, Hardy and Mincey at both DE spots. If Lawrence is playing well, he would clearly be outplaying Mincey. So Hardy and Lawrence would get the majority of snaps.

Mincey will ultimately be the odd man out with limited snaps. We didn't pay Hardy 13 mil to play 30 snaps. He is a very good 3 down DE. And under this scenario, Lawrence is ripping it up so you want him out there as much as possible. So Mincey would be the guy to give either Hardy/Lawrence a rest.

It seems a forgone conclusion that Hardy is going to serve at least a couple game suspension for everything last year before getting here. During that time I would imagine DLaw will be playing RDE... so what happens if say he is averaging a sack a game (say 4 sacks in 4 games) and is in full beast mode prior to Hardy getting here. Who would you move over the the left side in that situation?

It would be a good situation to be in.

Hardy will see a lot of snaps, but the staff likes to rotate guys. Mincey won't be the odd man out, I think he'll see plenty of action. There will probably also be quite a few opportunities for all three of them to be on the field at the same time with Crawford.

The Cowboys for YEARS had DeWare in for too many snaps and wore him out by the 4th; it is a tribute to Ware that he still got the majority of his sacks in the 2nd half of games. I hope they have FINALLY learned their lesson about platooning and making sure that you give your best rushers some rest during the game so that they have gas left when it really matters.

Would be nice to have a problem where you got a guy on the team generating so many sacks that it makes you have to think about what to do with the top DE you just signed to sack the QB coming to play.

It may or may not present a big problem but what I think won't matter. Being just a fan, it's not my strength to make football decisions. I'll leave it to those in charge to decide what to do and be glad they're available. Both Lawrence and Hardy are excellent defensive ends. I would imagine that with that being the case, either could adjust well. They'll have the opportunity to experiment with switching around in training camp. However that goes should provide a good indication.

Marinelli's scheme often has the DE's switch and be able to play both sides. In fact, it was a major point of focus for Lovie Smith's defense....have your best pass rusher on the strongside because the RT isn't likely as good at pass pro as the LT. That's why he had Leonard Little at LDE when Lovie was in St. Louis, Adawale Ogunlye there in Chicago and then Julius Peppers at LDE in Chicago.

Marinelli tends to go with a more traditional positioning of the LDE and RDE, but they can play either position.

I think the expectation will be that everyone can play everywhere. Josh Brent is probably the only uni-tasker on the entire line, although it will likely be rare to see Crawford lineup outside.

What I really like about the lineup of Hardy, Crawford, Mincey and Lawrence is the stunt and twist possibilities. Marinelli spent a lot of time playing DL games last year to generate rush as opposed to blitzing, and I think we'll see even more this year. Lawrence and Mincey in particular have shown a good feel for running competent stunts.

Marinelli is going to rest his defensive linemen. Hardy and Lawrence will both be subbed for and I think they will flip flop some depending on the match-ups. I hope they get one more DE that they like to go along with Hardy, Mincey and Lawrence. Maybe it is Gardner, maybe Spencer comes back or maybe they draft a guy in the mid rounds... but one more decent to good guy would be nice.

Of course, if Hardy is suspended they'll need someone else there short term, but overall, the DE's look really nice. The main rotational guy (Mincey) is really a pretty good player for Marinelli.
