What do you think of a trade for Mettenberger?

Why?

The Cowboys need a better backup but it needs to be a veteran.

I say we get that Vaughan guy. Oh, wait ... we already have him.

I'm all for seeing his progress before trading away picks for QBs. Now, he may amount to nothing, but it's possibly that he'll at least be a suitable backup.

Titans drafted him and replaced him. Why was he not good enough for them but is good enough for us? When it comes to the starting QB, I would prefer he be drafted by and developed for our Cowboys.

Truth.

Young, big and strong. Had a decent season with a mediocre team last year and is now expendable after the Titans drafting Mariota.

I think it might be worth it if we can get him for a decent investment.

Haven't you heard yet. There is no money because we are going all in for AP.;)

I'd trade a day 3 pick for him and expect him to beat out Vaughn in year 1 if nothing else. I don't think he would accept that role though. If he would then it is a no brainer. Too much talent arm and mind to just discount. We would have him for 3 years.

Mettenberger has a big arm but he cannot get out of his own way. His feet are like stuck in the mud when he's in the pocket. No escapability whatsoever!

In fairness, when the competition involves a guy drafted 2nd overall and you are a 6th round pick, the playing field is not exactly level. The GM of the team has a pretty vested interest in you not winning.

Exactly...............if the 6th round pick beats out the guy you just drafted number two overall............you are not going to stay the GM too long if you know what I mean.

I know my titans fan buddy wanted to keep Mettenberger over drafting Mariota (he almost broke his hand punching the floor when it got announced, haha), but would any of you that have seen him play more than me be ok with trading Leary for him? Our best Oline depth if Collins takes his spot,

Bringing Mettenberger in for a 4th or 5th would be a steal in my opinion. I wanted the Cowboys to take him coming out of LSU. Titans can be stupid if they want to trade him and bet the house on Mariotta but that dog won't hunt and Tennessee will realize that as the season goes along.

Mettenberger might have feet made of stone to escape pressure, but he has an arm like Uncle Rico and can throw a football over those mountains. Titans didn't have the WRs nor the OL for him to have a great rookie campaign and Mett still put up pretty good numbers. You put Mettenberger behind our OL and most fans would like those results. Go back and watch Mettenberger at LSU before his injury with ODB and Jarvis Landry particularly the UGA and see if you don't come back impressed.

People can knock him for maturity issues when regarding his past but people grow up, owning their mistakes and can become respected professionals.
