What does all these restructuring of player contracts mean for the Cowboys

Got a few questions for some of those Zone experts. It would be awesome to answer a few questions on how Romo and all these restructured contracts in 2013 affect the Cowboys future.

1. Why is Romo not extending his contract, is he holding the team hostage so he can get a FLACO type deal next year? Has ROMO forced the Jones into doing all these restructuring.

2. Can Jerry and Stephen get enough cap space to sign Spencer..even if Romo is not extended?

3. What does this mean for future of Livings, Breadeaux, Miles Austin, Cook and others. Are they now deemed uncutable in 2013, 2014

Are the deals Jerry and Stephen Jones doing now going to put the Cowboys in Salary Cap hell next year and beyond.

It appears Jerry Jones is mortgaging the future of this franchise with a roster of aging, average at best players that cant stay healthy...

are these moves a smart way to manipulate the Salary Cap on a yearly basis or is this desperation by the Jones'

I don't think anybody can give you an accurate answer to this question at this time.

You will, however get plenty of speculation.

Sign=Yes, Franchise=Maybe

3. What does this mean for future of Livings, Breadeaux, Miles Austin, Cook and others. Are they now deemed uncutable in 2013, 2014
It makes it highly unlikely that they will be cut. The only one that surprises me is Cook. I didn't think they would give him any additional guaranteed money.

These restructures alone will not be a big issue. If they somehow sign some expensive Free Agents it could make it tight in the coming years.

Of all of the things that they do, Romo's new contract is going to have the biggest affect on the future salary cap.

Players that are currently 30 and over:
32 Romo, Tony
31 Ratliff, Jay
30 Hatcher, Jason
30 Livings, Nate
30 Orton, Kyle
30 Ware, DeMarcus
30 Witten, Jason

Are these moves a smart way to manipulate the Salary Cap on a yearly basis or is this desperation by the Jones'?
If a team does not push money into the future, then they're basically just operating at a disadvantage to other teams.

Did the Commanders ever really hit Salary Cap hell after years of ridiculous contracts? No.

It means after they deal with Free and Connor and extend Romo they will be about 20m under the cap, just like xwalker predicted a week ago. Please update the spreadsheet if possible.

Average at best? Who's the aging average at best? Because 30 even in football for those positions isn't old.

Romo's deal is more complicated than the others. Since he's in the final year of the deal, Dallas actually has to negotiate a deal that he'll accept and will fit into the structure of what it wants to do this year.

I don't think it has anything to do with what Flacco will get, just that it has more bells and whistles to figure out than the other stuff Dallas is doing.

Yes, with a few more restructurings. Dallas doesn't have to cut anyone to get there, but might if those players don't agree to contracts the Cowboys think they are worth.

No. Dallas structures contracts so that it can do the same thing again next year in order to open cap space, absorb dead money for players who don't live up to their contracts, etc.

This is simply the yearly cycle of today's NFL for any owner who is willing to spend to keep his players or bring in free agents.

aslong as the CAP has a significant (6-10 million) increase starting in 2016 and keeps going up steadily then we can manage it.

BUT that is not certain in any way shape or form to happen.

Jerruh is throwing the dice.

It means the same thing it does every year that they make these moves in order to get themselves under the cap where they want to be. It means they'll be under the cap and they'll be as big a player in FA as they feel like being and it means in the future they'll do the exact same things again to put themselves in position they want to be in at that time.

I don't know why this is ever some big surprise or shock from year to year.

I don't think we'll be looking for a big fish like Carr last year, but we could certainly bring in some 2nd and 3rd tier guys for depth. I wonder if we'll use the money to keep any of our FA's.

I think we will be surprised this year
Jerry really feels the clock is ticking on him, to y, and Jason
I think we will see a couple of really good FA brought in, I am hoping it is a starter on the OL and one on the do
