I think you should look at his stat line against the VA TECH Hokies, who have a defense vs those other teams he ran it up against.

Check out Boise State's Ian Johnson this Weds night against Fresno.
He has ran wild against a lot of soso competion, but he racked up over 200 yards against the Oregon State team that is on the verge of knocking off SoCal.

The guy I'm more interested is his backfield mate C.J. Spiller. He's a true freshman and playing very well.
