I am getting tired of watching these playoffs games where some teams like Pittsburgh and Carolina seem to be able to pass block and run the ball at will. It has been 11 seasons since we've had a good OL. Don't tell me that injuries kept us from being good this year, New England lost 3/5 of their OL and there has been very little drop off with them. What must we do to turn this trend around?

I wish I knew. I think, sadly enough, it's a combination of poor coaching and lack of talent..

...inexperience to that list also. Tucker, Pettiti and Johnson seem to have difficulty adjusting to stunts and blitzes. I'm not sure all those negative plays could be attributed to not being coached adequately.

draft a few of the Texas and USC offensive linemen coming out this year. Some of the best college o-linemen I have ever seen.

If its any consolation there are worse lines out there. Houston for example.

Its a system that makes a Oline work. For example LA, Adams or Petitte could not zone block, counter tray, or sweep block.

Our problem is two fold: power blocking Oline with run in space back. Statue QB who will hold on to the ball with a Oline that is good for a 5 step release offense.

The offense had the more experience of the team but the most protected.

A mobile QB...not a runner...but someone who can at least take a step or two in the pocket when things breakdown...or when that extra second is needed.

All the guys we have seen in today's games can at least avoid the rush....

There were a number of plays where the drive would have ended if an immobile QB was under center.

In this era of pressure defense, no line is going to be able to hold out max blitz, zone blitz, etc, packages. The QB has to at least be able to avoid ONE rusher.

Minnesota and the Jets also allowed more sacks than us

NYJ, Dallas and Houston clearly had the 3 worst lines and there is no close 4th.

All 3 were bottom 6 rushing yardage per attempt as well as in sacks allowed. Minny allowed sacks for instance but was middle of the pack in rushing yards per attempt so they could do something, lol. Arizona couldn't run block a lick but they had decent pass blockers.

Again back to the nonsensical we need to jettison Bledsoe to block better argument that just doesnt improve our run blocking where we simply miss blocks. Since we completely miss rush ends on a regular basis I have a hard time laying many sacks at Bledsoe's feet as well. He doesn't help his own cause much to be sure but getting met at the 5 step drop point by an end is NOT his fault and that happened with much frequency the second half of the year. The sack total went wayyyy up after 1 game of not having Flo. That is pretty logically not gonna be Bledsoe's fault.

...but I guess folks can believe whatever helps them sleep at night even if it is completely illogical. :)

I can see having a bad year or two but we have not been good in this area since 1995. It can't be just injuries and youth.

Honestly I believe it is bad drafting and overrated players.

LA misses more blocks than any other Pro Bowl lineman essentially every season.

Gurode is a vet yet can't make line calls.
Lehr, Shiver, Johnson, Rogers, Peterman and so many other OL draftees have just plain sucked. We could really use someone with an eye for OL. Ironically that had been a trademark of BP prior to this stop. He stocked the Jets with quality OL.
