83 is scoring because 83 is a talented WR.

Dez hasn't caught many passes on routes beyond 5 yards of the line of scrimmage. A 15 yard slant needs to be mixed in. Even tho I hardly see those routes nowadays

Your dislike for Dez seeps through every post you make about Dez. News flash while Twill is talented, Dez has elite level talent. You can't be elite level talent catching with your body and blowing easy catches that would change the outcome of the game.

Dez is being designated by defensive coaches to draw a steadily increasing amount of coverage with each game. Anytime that attention increases as it does, his RACs are virtually assurred of decreasing in terms of gaining any extra yards. As hard as he fights for every inch he gets, imo, it's to his credit he does that well. In the past, he drew criticism for fighting TOO hard and putting himself in harms way for injury. He's doing just fine in my humble estimation.

He's had some of those WR screens thrown his way where I thought he'd be able to make the DB miss or power through him, but it hasn't really been effective.

Dallas is atrocious at running WR screens. Receivers dont attack the ball on the move, passes never seem to be on point (A jump here a reach back there. the blocking also isnt timed well.

That play and the the 3 yard in needs to be scrapped

Hard to get a lot YAC, when Defenses have a safety playing over the top most of the time

As in, ever?

Not very often. Romo's passes are generally not placed in good spots for a pass catcher to grab them and run. Even when Dez beats somebody deep he usually has to adjust to Romo's throw. Before anyone jumps on me, I'm not saying Romo is bad or anything of the sort. He just doesn't throw passes that are conducive to players running after the catch with them. He doesn't throw the jump ball or fade that well either. If Dez was on another team he'd have way more highlight reel plays.

From what we've been seeing he hasn't had a whole lot of chances to catch the ball in space and do those things. Those chances will happen, especially if Williams continues to make people pay for leaving him 1 on 1. The more 1 on 1 that Dez winds up with later in the season (Due to Murray running the ball so well and Williams playing well on the other side) the more often you're going to see chances for RAC.

It's also worth mentioning that the last couple of years Dez really seemed to come on stronger the second half of the year and I would expect that to happen again this year.
Overall this is a good post.

Dez is averaging 8.2 yards per target, compared to 7.9 last year. Combined with a low YAC, this is a good thing, because it means he's producing more while being less exposed to hits. (Legal ones, anyway.)

But what's way down is the pass rating on his targets.
32 of 46 for 376 4 td 4 int 86.9

Romo's rating is 102.4 to everybody else. If we'd played a large enough chunk of games, we could conclude that he's been forcing the ball to Dez too much.

This is just wrong. He will have issues with quick slants due to his delivery but you haven't watched many games. Sure he's been off this year but it's getting better because he can torque his back.

My gut tells me that if you remove the 49ers game, this one changes significantly.

to Bryant 103.8
to everyone else 113.1

Dez's targets gain about 6 points on everyone else's, from a 15-point difference to about a 9-point difference.

But Dez is usually far ahead of everyone else.

Is it just me or does it seem like Dez has lost some of his run-after-catch ability? Seems like he goes down fairly easily after first contact, while in previous years it was tough to get him down. I remember his running skills when he was taking punt returns to the house--I haven't really seen much in that regard this season.

In the beginning, it was Miles Austin and Jason Witten who were getting all of the attention. Now it's mostly just Dez. So when he catches the ball, all eyes are on him and he typically already has 2 players covering him.
