What happens if they put Clay Mathews on Parnell

Yeah they did a number on us, but this group learns. If GB wants to blitz bring it on, bring safeties up then Dallas needs to go through the air, drop safeties back we run it

I just hope we are ready to begin with, not after having 14 dropped on us. We fall behind two scores in GB it's over.

I haven't rewatched the game but the breakdowns I saw in protections when Detroit blitzed seemed to come from the RB missing a block on a fake or Romo just being confused with the defensive look. I think the line as a whole got beat by Detroit's four down linemen in the first half but somehow Linehan and Callahan talked the team through it. I don't think we will have to worry about the pressure up the middle with GB and we will be able to get more help on the edges no matter who plays RT.

well of course, Det DL presented a bigger problem they were a top ranked defense and as Romo said maybe the toughest defense we faced. GB defense is not that great.

Bad news. Thanks though

The one thing we can be pleased about is that Parnell is not a major drop off from Free. Some would argue that there's little difference. I remember in the not too distant past that Parnell would have been an upgrade on our OL. Still, I would love to have Free back at 100%.

You guys act like Parnell is some big weakness. Please.

Worry about stopping Rodgers and getting off the field on 3rd down.

If they jump out on us like Detroit did we won't come back against this guy.

Biggest problem.....Parnell doesn't have the hair Mathews has, he's doomed

Matthews matches up poorly to just about every OL in the league. I just made a thread about Parnell and how I'm not a big fan after Sunday, but Matthews scares me against anyone. It's the line's job as a whole to account for him and Romo's job to know where he is.

Tyron made Matthews look like a jag last year

I'd be just as concerned with Free as with Parnell.

Parnell's problem is assignments, not physically blocking a guy. While Free would most likely always be in the right position, Matthews could simply overpower him. He won't be able to do that to Parnell.

Good post.

True but Hasslett system cost them big time in the last game as dallas picked it up and was able to get the 1 on 1 matchups that favored us greatly.

Exactly - his one valid claim was being able to say he was able to defense Dallas well over the past few years. I think the season finale shows how simplistic his game planning really is, and that he could not adjust.

I like Parnell and he's tough but he's tall and upright and would lose a guy like that constantly. Could be a game wrecker . We can't have a cold stiff romo getting hit like last week. We need more dinks and dunks and chains movers

The biggest issue in the Lions game in terms of pressure was Romo holding the ball too long. In the 2nd half they started running more routes short and in the middle of the field which allowed Romo to get rid of the ball faster.

This is the 1st of 6 starts this season by Parnell where he allowed a sack. There is no need to panic.

Parnell seems to get caught in making no decision on a blocking assignment....and in the thought process the ball gets snapped. He is better off making a decision, and getting up and out of stance, if its the wrong assignment pickup so be it, but at least make a decision and go with it. A lot of time in the speed of NFL football making no decision and just freezing is the worst thing he can do..............remember the kid played basketball I believe thru college, the instincts wont be there like a kid that played from gradeschool onward.

Matthews is a great player. But when you are a big strong guy like Parnell....with the best hand punch on the team. Every chance you get to put your hands on Matthews....you give him the hardest punch he has ever felt...and hopefully that will weaken his legs and make him a little punch drunk as the game progresses. Parnell has to punish anyone he gets his hands on. That is his advantadge.

Yeah I don't think anyone anticipated the blitz looks shown by Detroit in the first half. That was a heckuva game plan by them. That we didn't anticipate from Washington was just a poor gameplan all around because Haslett has been doing it for like 5 years lol.

They were like ants. They came from everywhere.

Yes, but in the Lions games making a decision was primarily just a problem for Parnell on 1 play, IIRC. He did have a few plays that you can take issue with, but most of them were not a decision problem.

The 'decision making" that I tend to notice is really just how he and Zach Martin interact. They really don't seem to be on the same page like Free and he were at all times, which probably comes from those two working together since day one at Training Camp.
