What happens if we never select Steve Walsh in supplemental draft?

Since we went 1-15 with Aikman and Walsh, I'm thinking if we don't draft Walsh we still go 1-15 even though he won our only game that season. But the bigger question is since we would of had the #1 pick, would we had drafted Blair Thomas, RB, Penn State #1. That's a question I always wondered..

Thoughts!

If we would have drafted Thomas what would our 1990's legacy be...

Probably Cortez Kennedy or Junior Seau.

Cortez would have been a possible target, I doubt we draft Seau. But at that time Thomas was a can't miss prospect and we needed a RB since we traded away Walker...

Then if we draft Cortez we dont draft Maryland the next season... Just a big ole train reaction. lol

He could have traded the pick to the Colts like Atlanta (Andre Rison, Chris Hinton, 20th pick) or chosen Cortez Kennedy, Keith McCants, Junior Seau. He wanted to trade up that draft for a LB that year so Junior Seau could have been the choice.

Not a doubt in my mind Jimmy Johnson would have drafted Miami Hurricane, DT, Cortez Kennedy.

There never has been a doubt in my mind that is who he would have targeted.

That one is easy to answer and Hos is right.

Honestly I don't think anything would have changed, we still win 3 super bowls.

Jimmy might have been tempted by Tez, but he would have chosen Jr Seau, he said so himself.

What would Dallas have done had they held the pick?

"We had Seau as the best player in the draft," Johnson said, at a Fox media gathering for Sunday's Super Bowl. "We had him at the top of our board.

"The one thing you really can't evaluate about a player coming out of college is how he's going to grow and develop, how he's going to prepare himself week in and week out after he becomes a rich man.

"All I have ever heard from the people who coach him is that Junior Seau is just a special, special individual."

And I am surprised no one remembers how frantically he was trying to get a LB in that draft. So much so that many say that he simply lucked into taking Emmitt Smith.

Don't forget we actually traded up for Emmitt. It's not like we just sat there and he fell into our laps.

Hey I completely agree, but there are others out there who refuse to give Jimmy credit for the Emmitt pick. Just pointing that out.

He tried to trade up for LB James Francis. It's a good thing that failed.

No ES and James Francis. That's a nightmare.

Oh I know. Those are the same people who always downplay what Jimmy did and what BP did all the while passing Jerry off as a competent GM. It's really laughable.

Jimmy said they had Blair rated higher than Emmitt so we'd probably taken Blair. Also, didn't Keith McCants get picked before, and was higher rated than, Seau? So, I doubt that we'd pick the #2 rated LB, when the #1 was available. Either way, we'd be picking a total bust (Blair, McCants).

I remember. He was trying to trade up to get James Francis, LB, Baylor.

Fortunately, the Bengals didn't want to trade with the Cowboys to move up in the draft. So we stayed put. Then when we saw Emmitt falling and knew Atlanta wanted a running back, Dallas traded up from 21 to 17 to pick Emmitt.

He had Blair rated higher than Emmitt, true. But the Cowboys had signed a running back from the 49ers (I think it was Terrance Fletcher or Flager) so they were going to ride him out. Jimmy Johnson really wanted a linebacker first. He lucked into Emmitt because he couldn't get James Francis.

Walsh was vital to the success of the Cowboys. IMO, the competition between he and Troy is what gave Troy the chip on his shoulder to prove that Jimmy and Jerry were wrong for going after Walsh. I personally feel that Troy doesn't play with that urgency if there isn't a young QB, who also had a great college career, to push him. Oh, and you know it just ate him alive, probably still does, that Walsh got the only win for the Boys in 89.
