Tony Romo leads the cowboys through december, the playoffs and to super victory...
what then?
What happens to the mediots hate for the Cowboys?
Could they maintain it?
Is Tony Romo not automatically an elite quarterback?
Is Terrell Owens release still a mistake?
Is Roy Williams trade still the worst trade in nfl history?
Is Jerry Jones still a failure of an owner/gm?
Is Wade Phillips still the coach who can't win in the playoffs?
Are the Cowboys still the 3rd best team in the NFC East?
Or would they just say its because Romo dumped Jessica Simpson?
Winning the Super Bowl means so much to us Cowboys fans it's not even funny.
I'm tired of being the butt of the NFL's jokes. This team has been productive since 2006.
Our team was destroyed in the salary cap era. We haven't won a playoff game in twelve years? Sure this is true, but that has no bearing on this years team, or even the teams in the last couple years.
From 1999 to 2002 this team simply didn't exist from the scale of having much of a chance. The team was falling apart from the salary cap implosion, and the Joey Galloway trade really didn't work out for us. Not saying it was a bad idea, it simply crippled our franchises chance to get talented players.
1999 we had no receivers
2000 our team had just gone to ****
2001 on and we didn't have a quarterback
The Parcells era really did recreate this team though. But I really don't want to give him all the credit.
We want to compare ourselves to New York and Philly but these teams have been good a lot longer than we have. This team is pretty new.
Manning has been starting since 2004, and McNabb since 1999....
Romo has been starting since half way into 2006...
When Ben Roethlisberger came to the the Steelers, they were already a fairly good team. Especially on defense. The team was already created under Cowher. Our team was being rebuilt from the ground up. The Patriots were 6 years removed from the super bowl, and even then it took a very easy schedule to get them into the playoffs. They aren't the team they are now. It took them til 2007 to get that good. From 2001.
Patriots combined record 5 years before Brady - 43 - 37
Cowboys combined record 5 years before Tony Romo - 35 - 45
And you know what... it gets worse the further back you go. Much worse...
My point is lets be easy for a second. Realize that we are in what has been one of the toughest divisions in football for the last few years, and take a step back.
We haven't won a playoff game since 1996.... yeah there happens to be a reason behind that.
Aikman's era came to an end, and between 1997-2000 we had very little to no success.
We didn't have a first round draft pick to go after a quarterback until 2002. And unfortunately for hindsight we drafted Roy Williams. I guess we still thought Quincy Carter could be our quarterback. And we did go 10-6 with him. Which is hardly horrible. Not that I'm a QC apologist. But you draft a qb in the 2nd round obviously you're going to give him time.
By 2004 we had brought in Vinny Testaverde, and quite frankly... there usually aren't a whole lot of qbs in the wind in free agency. there wasn't a drew brees... although a lot of you guys wanted jake delhomme... And we did take a chance on Drew Henson.
Back to my original point this franchise has really JUST turned the corner. We the fans at the very least have to get behind it. The media doesn't want this team to be good, fans of 31 nfl teams don't want this team to be good... thats the last thing they want. The NFL can laugh at the cowboys right now, but in the back of their skulls they still remember the 70s, 90s, and even 80s cowboys who simply dominated the nfl, and ruined MANY playoff and super bowl chances...
There have been 43 super bowls. The Cowboys have been to 8 of them. That is damn near 20% of the super bowls (almost 1 out of 5). We've won over 10% of the super bowls. 1/10th of super bowls, and there are currently 32 teams...
