he's getting paid too much like most of our players but we don't know what we have in Spencer yet. It's a tough decision but I'd get rid of him.

Whether he stays or goes...I am sure he will complain about job security *cough money cough* and how much Dallas did or did not respect him.

I wish we could cut him and get someone younger, but it would probably cost way too much money to get a situational pass rusher in FA. We'd have to hope we hit someone in the Draft.

I think I'd keep Ellis this year, but I would DEFINITELY draft a replacement for him as well.

On paper he looks like the guy you should respect. Been with us since 98, has switched positions several times, etc.

But man he is a whiney *****.

He definitely is whiney.

I hope we draft a replacement for him this year, but let the rookie grow into the role for 2010. One more year of Ellis whining and that's it.

I never thought I'd say this, but Greg Ellis has been more of a distraction for our football team than....

I'm just kidding, sorta.

Edit: Cutting Ellis would save us 5.265 mil... Its been real, and its been fun - but it hasn't been real fun. Peace Willie.

Why would they cut Ellis before the Draft?

Cutting him would open a boatload of cap room that they could use to sign other players. And, he has incentives tied to attending the offseason workouts. If they cut him before the workouts begin, they don't have to pay him that extra amount.

If he was an unrestricted free agent, would you pay him more than $5.25 million to play one season? I wouldn't. He'll be 34 years old and is one dimensional.

I doubt Jerry goes over to his house this time to pamper his feelings. ;)

I'd cut Ellis loose, if it were me.

I can certainly see the reason why they would cut him, I was just not certain why they would do so prior to the Draft. I was wanting to see if maybe they could get a late round pick for him rather than release him outright prior to the Draft, but I guess I'm just dreaming at this stage.

To answer the original post: there'll probably be at least a couple of more interviews in which Greg explains how under-appreciated he is.

It's the suspense that gets ya in the end.

I'd probably trade him or cut him, depending. Tell ya who I would love to see in Dallas. I'd love to see us pick up Antonio Smith.

If they cut Ellis, there better be a plan to replace his pass rush.

That's my concern.

Otherwise, I'd prefer to wait until after the Draft.

Let Ellis go. Take the $5 million. Spencer needs to play and should start. If he doesn't capitalize on the opportunity then we know what we have. We should know by now anyways. Get solid depth behind Spencer, someone with obvious pressure capabilities whether it be a draft pick or veteran FA. But save that $5 million with Ellis. He's no longer a deal like he was the 3 seasons prior.
