Good question and all previous answers given are good ones. I am not sure what had a higher impact over another.

From a "who had a great impact" perspective, as far as players go, I would say Lawrence Taylor. Altho there were plenty of defensive ends who preceded Taylor and were beasts in their own right, I think Taylor kinda broke the mold and established that fast twitch bend the edge presence.​

Spawned a new breed of player like the Derrick Thomas's, Demarcus Wares, Von Millers and Khalil Macks of our modern day defenses. Sorry, if off topic, just my two cents from a player perspective impact as I said.
