I see posts with references to the All-22. There are still photos from that app. There are video clips. This has become a revenue source for the owners and league, with fans rushing out to sign up and "be like a coach."

What I think would be as huge money maker for the league and owners is a series on football.

Offense 101
Defense 101
Special Teams 101

...and all the sub sets of each. So a former head coach or players goes through the basics and heads toward the advanced. All the buzz words, dissecting plays and what the intent was. Ultimately speaking about game planning to individual battles of player versus player. A football education for the fan from Kick-off to the final gun.

People on this board would pay for this, and after a season or two, you'd have to sign up because you'd have no idea what this board was talking about.

Of course one might make the claim if you really educated the Great Unwashed to the point this game wasn't a mystery filled with conjecture by the fan, people might lose interest.

Just a thought.

Pat Kirwin has a pretty successful book which he is going to put on video, if I'm not mistaken called "Take Your Eye Off The Ball: How To Watch Football By knowing Where To Look". I've never read it, but on his Sirius XM football talk show he discusses a lot of Football 101 stuff that is in his book. He is very detail oriented and does a great job teaching. I could see the NFL copying his idea. You're right. They would make a mint.

I never got a dime for my threads.

~grin~

In all seriousness, I did enjoy those. Imperfect to be sure, but there was good dialogue on all but one.

Take ball, head towards opposing goal line, if something gets in your way--turn.

It is pretty good in terms of an elementary look at football to start with. There are a lot of things that most fans do not know what to look at when watching a game and like the title says, it gets the message across.

You are starting to see it. ProFootballFocus and Football Outsiders are starting to take off. NFLBreakdowns is a new one I saw this week that utilizes gifs. Some guy started doing this for I think the Bleacher Report a few weeks ago.

The problem is, though, that users on this board are the minority. We spend a ton of our free time reading about a game on which we have absolutely zero impact for the sheer love of the sport. Most people aren't looking to consume a lot of information on football tactics, line play, etc. Some will, but most want the three paragraph article and summary.

If you want to get those, go check out amazon.com or go to a local Barnes & Noble. there is actually several books you can find that detail the specific tactics within football, although it is often driven for high school or college, or is very outdated (I think I bought a book on the wing-t several years ago lol).

There seem to be some doing this. But the NFL owns the images oin the videos of games. They have coaches employed. They have former players on the payroll. They obviously have the facility to make something like this with the NFL studio.

I agree there are some places for good information. And this may very well be a small segment of people who take this game as seriouslly as the people who post here.

But the final product - The University of the NFL - would be on every wish list of all the people here.

By the way, I found this for those who are interested.

I actually have the football coaching bible. At this point its slightly outdated because the game is constantly changing every single season. It is still a good read if you want to get just a little more technical. I agree with your view on getting the fans more informed, but then you are also correct when you say that the game might lose some of its mysticism. And as it is, some fans think that if they read a few articles on the "zone scheme" or the role of a "3-technique or 5-technique defender" that they're football geniuses but the truth is until you walk in a football office as a coach or administrator you've merely scratched the surface as far as your football knowledge.
