What I think we should do with Roy...

In obvious passing situations move him to LB. He still plays the run and when he isnt deep in a zone he seems more than average. Bring in Nate Jones to play his spot. Roy would improve our rush, even if he was just faking it due to OLines and QB's looking for him presnap. Roy is a very capable safety just not when he gives over the top help (i.e. the Cover 2) It is just when teams spread us out they seem to find the holes in coveage alot faster than when we are in our base 3-4. If Roy were to be moved to Nickel LB (Singleton's spot) and Nate Jones were to come in IMO our deep pass coverage gets better and our pass rush gets better as well.
Just some thoughts because teams will be trying the deep ball all year long now.

There's nothing we should do with Roy. Santana Moss was just faster than him and the CB trying to cover him. He got beat. It happens to everyone

I can go either way on Roy playing LB.

The problem is we have no one who really deserves to get heavy PT at SS if we move Roy to LB. Whoever we put at FS (Scott, Jones, or whoever) isn't nearly as skilled and probably makes mistakes Roy does too.

Until we get a SS worth playing, Roy should stay where he is.

Wow. One play is given up and Roy needs to change positions. Quick! Tell the coaching staff. They're obviously using him wrong.

No offense intended.

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT????? Some people really amaze me, how could you say that Roy freakin Williams is not worth playing?? well, you really didnt say it, but it was STRONGLY implied......are you nuts? One play was his fault, he got beat......so he wont jump on a run so quick next time, and BOOM, problem solved, end of story.......stop this thread right now.....just a ridiculous suggestion.

no offense inteded;):D

I used to like it when they would put Bill Bates in at MLB in their dime package.

I think Williams could do real well in that scheme. But I'm ok with him staying where he is also. I think people are totally overreacting to the plays from Monday.

I don't think he will let too many players get deeper than him like that in the future.

And I hope the CB will also provide better coverage in those situations. IMO, its not enough to just run down the field on the outside so the receiver can't get outside of you, you have to cover the receiver also.

I don't know how anyone can say that Glenn was providing strong coverage on those plays.

IMO, he and Williams can share the blame.

The problem with that is Roy still is our most reliable S in pass coverage on the roster. So you're hurting the team by moving him elsewhere and putting someone else back there. If it were that easy to put Nate Jones or any other mediocre CB on our roster back there at S, we would've done that well before now.

If Roy is our best Safety in coverage we have issues. I've been highlighting Safety depth ad nauseaum to resistence.

Roy should stick to SS - and in prevent packages moved up to LB and a center fielder brought in behind him.

Agreed.

But what happened to Reeves?
All TC, BP was touting Reeves as our best Safety for Nickel packages... now I'm hearing Jones being mentioned.

I know lets keep him at ss. I cannot believe some of this is being brought up. I wonder if the skins fans are wondering if the should move taylor because he bit on the flea flicker or the safety Harrison should move to LB because He did not get the angle on Randy Moss on the opening Thursday game, some of you guys have to stop talking out of frustration and relax a little bit

And Jones is tiny... The "Parakeet". I can't figure out Parcells' fascination with this guy. He was originally drafted not because he was a great DB, but because he was an excellent kickoff returner at Rutgers. Which of course he's never been used for here.

I know Jones is smart, but still... It seems like the last two years we've played musical chairs at defensive back, and I can't figure it out.

Every OC's game plan should and probably will call for NUMEROUS deep balls on our secondary until we do something about this problem.

Anyone remember the Pats game a couple of years ago? This ain't a new problem for Roy and our defense.

Like I said we still need a true center fielder.
Move Roy to nickel LB on 3rd and longs and keep him in the box on running downs. Davis seems to be a better coverage safety than Roy but he isnt a true FS. I too heard Reeves name mentioned as a nickel safety but recently heard Nate Jones' name mentioned in an article about being the nickel safety.
Roy is at his best at underneath coverage and threatening to blitz. He could be a decoy while Dat blitzes and etc..
IMO we will have this problem until we get a true FS or move TNew out of the slot.

Actually, I think this may be a good idea.

yep, this would be great for 3rd and other obvious passing downs. too bad jones and reeves arent that great. Hopefully we draft a real fs next year, no offense to keith davis really, but he isnt the coverage fs we need when Roy is on the field. I was hoping bp would use a later round pick on a coverage FS but it didnt happen. although beriault is a very good young player, he isnt the type of safety I thought we needed to start at FS.

People are idiots aren't they? You should go to the DFW.com blog site. It's like the end of the world. As if the Skins would have never won a game against Dallas again.

I agree. I think it makes sense in a dime/long yardage package, which we should have been at that point in the game. Finding the right guys to plug in is the thing- maybe Jones, Reeves, etc. can't do it?

Your not really comparing biting on a flea flicker to blowing deep coverage when that was your only responsibility are you?
