What I think will happen with Jason Garrett

Given that Miami gave Jerry Jones until Thursday to make a decision, I suspect that Jerry will hire Garrett as the Offensive Coordinator for now which will give him more time to interview other head coach candidates. That way, he has more time to make his decision on Garrett and see what else is out there.

If it turns out Jerry can't find anyone he likes or doesn't want to give up draft picks for, he can then hire Garrett as the Head Coach later.

Personally, I'd rather see Garrett as OC but to me, Jerry seems to want him on the staff in some capacity and knows he has to do it tomorrow or it will be too late.

That's just my opinion though :)

What credible HC has his staff hired for him before he is even offered the job?

Oh yeah, I forgot. Barry Switzer.

Thats probably the best way to look at all this. Either way, we have a very intelligent, highly regarded person on our staff.

Keep an eye on Todd Bowles and Tony Sparano on this. I wouldn't be surprised if Jerry is hoping to keep both in the fold while also adding Garrett.

Sounds good in theory but permission is not needed to hire someone as a head coach. So we could have went on with interviews and hired Jason next week as head coach and the Dolphins couldnt have stopped us

I believe he is being hired on as OC or some role on offensive staff

Uh...Dom Capers was hired just recently before the fins got their coach. Its actually happening in the league more and more.....something even talked about on Mike and Mike this morning

and how do you know Jerry doesnt know the prospects he is looking at wouldnt have a problem with Garrett?

The train to palookaville is heading out of the station and we've all got one way tickets.

Most coaches dont get to pick their whole staffs

This season alone Cameron, Wisenhunt both were brought to teams with most of the staff already in place

When we hire Phillips he will decide on the defensive staff since that is his specialty

Capers was already the DC in Miami. Show me where the owner hired a coordinator from OUTSIDE the team then hired his head coach???

If someone like Reeves, Phillips or Turner were hired they could care less if the staff were in place- they would be (and should be) just happy to have a job.

Capers was a FA, he signed a NEW contract before they found a coach

Cam Cameron.

Bill Parcells.

More inherit a staff than bring all of their own staff.

So, what happens if next week, Jerry hires a head coach and they want to sign Jason Garrett as the OC? Too bad, Miami said tomorrow is the deadline.

Go back and read my post and you'll understand ..

I understand that I was speaking only to the hire him now to possibly make him HC later.

As for one of the others wanting him as OC thats possible

Well, given that the Cowboys have asked for permission to interview Wade Phillips but have yet to do that, it is almost positive that Garrett will be hired as the OC tomorrow, not the head coach.

Capers was Miami's DC last year so theres a certain amount of stability in keeping him. Garrett was not out OC last year so its a completely different situation.

Please tell me where an entirely new coach was hired as coordinator before the HC was hired??

it would be better than hiring him as a HC and then demoting him to OC later, wouldn't it?

you got a hate on, great. but even if someone told you you'd still hate, so why should someone bother?

I think this is exactly right. If, for instance, Ron Riveria is hired, he could still hire almost all the rest of the staff. The staff is the hardest part of the job. The longer we wait the harder it will be. Jason won't be a problem for anyone they bring in. He is a good guy and smart offensive coach. Payton leaving was a brain drain - Garrett is a brain infusion.

situations have already been named in this thread. Coaches dont always go and hire all new staff. its already been seen this year in Miami and Zona.
