1. More use of Martellus Bennett. Yeah, great, just having him on the field creates problem matchups. What I don't see is the offense making much use of those matchups.
2. More Sam Hurd. Yeah, I know he didn't make either TD grab last night (though I think he would have on the 1st try if the pass had been lower). But Romo has shown since preseason that he and Hurd are in sync in ways that clearly he and Austin are not.
3. More screen passes. Finally this team is showing some skill with the screen pass -- to the extent that they even tried the fake screen to one side and real screen to the other, a la Staubach in the old days. Why did they stop? I don't recall much use of it in the 2nd half (though I'll need to re-watch).
4. More Marion. Was he hurt in the 2nd half? Why did the pounding stop? I am a huge fan of Tashard Choice, but a steady diet of MBIII in the 2nd half of close games is a good thing.
5. A defense that works in the last minutes of a half or a game. Yeah, that was a nice defensive series when they stopped the Broncos on 4th down. But the TD pass to Marshall was a horror. Missed INT then a series of missed tackles. If the Broncos come away with only a FG, Folk would have tied that game at the end, and the Cowboys would have been alive in OT.
6. A healthy Felix Jones. Just a wish. Not his fault that he gets injured. But having him available means a much more explosive offense. Garrett's mindset seems to require that element, since he can't quite master a slow, grind-it-out offense (which is too bad, since the Cowboys have the big offensive line, the RB depth and the possession receivers at WR and TE to actually make grind-it-out work).
All in all, I'm becoming disillusioned with Garrett's offense, and with Wade in general. I don't like the idea of constant turnover in coaching staff, but last week, when the Panthers were doing good things, Wade looked like the proverbial spent fighter. And last night, no one was coming up with the adjustments to get the offense in gear (especially when it was clear Romo was having an off night).
I think Jerry will be starting his HC search for next season real soon if he hasn't already.
