If the season ended today, here is the draft order.

1 St. Louis 0-7 .510
2 Miami 0-7 .553
3 Atlanta 1-6 .515
4 New York Jets 1-6 .538
5 New England (from San Francisco) 2-4 .425

St. Louis has SJ. Ronnie Brown was having a breakout year in Miami before his injury. Atlanta goes QB, probably Brohm. Jet's could use help in a lot of areas, but I think they'll get a franchise QB if one is available since Pennington seems to be done.

And SF looks absolutely horrible, and it doesn't look like they're going to be winning any game's soon.

I think this is a possibility.

FWIW, if the season ended today Browns would have the 15th pick.

I can see BB going after another stud DT there. That team really has no holes. Depth at DT one.

Holy crap.
What are the odds that the SF pick was going to be lower than the Browns pick at the start of the year?

Yeah, it'd be a real sad day if the Patriots ended up with a top 5 pick.

Below is the 49ers schedule. Looks like there are several games that they have a decent chance of winning.

Sep 10 ARI 17 @ SF 20
Sep 16 SF 17 @ STL 16
Sep 23 SF 16 @ PIT 37
Sep 30 SEA 23 @ SF 3
Oct 07 BAL 9 @ SF 7
Bye
Oct 21 SF 15 @ NYG 33
Oct 28 NO @ SF
Nov 04 SF @ ATL
Nov 12 SF @ SEA
Nov 18 STL @ SF
Nov 25 SF @ ARI
Dec 02 SF @ CAR
Dec 09 MIN @ SF
Dec 15 CIN @ SF
Dec 23 TB @ SF
Dec 30 SF @ CLE

I'd rather them get McFadden than Lauriniatis...but I'd really rather they get neither.

If we had that schedule remaining, we would be staring 15-1 in the face.

If they get McFadden I hope he turns into Blair Thomas, KiJana Carter, Leeland McElroy and Tim Biakabutuka combined.

Don't they lose their highest draft pick if they make the playoffs?

If they make the playoffs their 1st rounder is gone. As of now, they have two. If they miss the playoffs, they lose the 2nd and 3rd. They're pretty much assured of making the playoffs though, so everyone assumes they'll lose the first rounder... theirs, not SFs.

What about this possibility...

The Niners end up with a top 5-10 pick. That wasn't really expected, but could easily happen as bad as they've played and with Smith out.

Belichick and Co.... in a complete thumbing their noses at the NFL gesture... trade down to later in the first round, possibly picking up another first rounder in 2009. At the very least they could regain a 2nd or 3rd rounder this year, depending on who they traded with.

I wouldn't put that past them, in fact I'm almost expecting it now.

This is why I believe the NFL should have removed at least both 1st rounders from them. If I were the commissioner, I would have taken away their entire first day draft........so 3 picks. The 3 picks, plus the fines would have been a very strong message to the entire league not to cheat.

The way I heard it was the higher of the two first rounders

From what I heard it been reported that at least 16 other teams in the NFL had been doing this "spygate" thing along with the Patriot. Why do you think that they (the nfl) is trying to sweep this all under the rug? The only reason the other teams hasn't been punish is because they didn't get caught. The Pats did so they paid the price.

The commish should have taken both first round picks from the patsies. He simply didn't punish the cheaters enough.

not that high since San Fran has yet to do squat, and is just a figment of the sportcaster's imagination, in other words, they were just the sexy pick to surprise

but it would suck major if the Pats ended up w/ McFadden, him and Maroney would make quite the tandem, that O would be next to unstoppable

I think the Pats will be looking for a LB. They're getting really old in that area.

They will probably go to the free agent market again and pick up some "retread" linebacker (Vilma?),and watch him get new life and become an integral part of their rotation.

They lost their own 1st, not the higher first.
