What if we take a WR in the first?

Let's say all of the DL guys we targeted have come off the board. What's your reaction if we take Mike Evans?

If all the defensive line targets are gone, then we likely would be taking Evans over one or two QBs too. I would be disappointed we did not get a lineman. I would rather have a guard in that scenario.

I like Evans.
But if Dez and Williams are starting on the outside, as expected, where does Evans play as a full time starter (which is always what a 1st rounder should be)?

Seems like we should for sure trade down in that scenario unless there's a player of equal tiered value there that fits a position of greater need.
But if he is by far the best player and there are no valid trade options, take him.

I think Evans would come in and start over Williams. It would be like Williams and Harris.

I'd hate it.

Given all of the needs this team obviously has, they can't afford to make yet another huge investment in that area.

The only way it would make sense to me is if they had decided NOT to invest in Dez Bryant for the long term.

IMO, Evans is a linchpin.

Draft Evans, it makes sense to trade Dez. If you trade Dez, you're forfeiting a good chunk of your competitiveness for this year.

Then you might as well start trading other guys that make sense to trade. Guys that will be in serious decline once this team is really ready to contend.

Me too.
But that's kind of my point. We may already have a legit WR2 that is young and getting better. Benching him seems like a luxury that team with so many gaping holes on defense cannot afford.

Now if we plan to get rid of Dez, then that's an entirely different story.

What's it going to be then, eh?

I would not like it for other reasons. Mainly being the fact that it would give us a mismatched WR pairing.

I don't disagree. I'd rather take almost any position on defense that isn't CB, or keep plugging away at the OL.

I'd prefer it to reaching on DL if that's the way things break. I'd rather trade down, but don't think there are likely to be a lot of good options for that. I could live with the right OL there, or one of the Ss. We're in a tough position re: the DL value in the first round, though.

As we can get a difference maker, I'm OK with a lot of options.

If Evans is BPA, take him. It would give us a terrific WR corps and we could still pick up a quality DE and DT in rounds 2 and 3.

As bad as it sounds to take a WR, I think Evans might be so good that it would be worth it. I'm not sure what would keep him from being a really top NFL WR.

I think he goes way high, though, and we never have a chance at him.
