What impressed me today was the defense

the defense. although we scored 28, I thought we will be even better than what we showed offensively against a weak defense.

that was the top 3 scoring offense and top 10 offense over all. outside of that end of first half crazy play, in essence we gave up 10 points to KC. contained their running game. contained hunt. contained Kelce and thus were able to pressure Smith all day.

hopefully this secondary is coming together. in hindsight, we had lost 3 DBs from last year. early in the year lost hitchens and lee, thus had 5 players in the back 7, trying to play together. it was obvious they were not in synch and not on same page and weren't playing off of each other. the coaches were trying to learn who is who, how they fit, etc. they may slowly be coming together. having lee back, having hitchens back and the DBs learning to play together and plus the DL coming together and pressuring is starting to bring this defense together.

the one player that worries me most in the secondary is Heath. He is soft. he can't tackle. he is a complementary safety, that would be good on nickle and dime. we sorely miss church and his toughness. yes a bit of liability in secondary, but great run defender, and sure tackler.

I hope chidobe is healing and at some point in the season can play. we can use more depth and perhaps he can be a Byron Jones type player as we get near playoffs, to give us flexibility as a CB/S type.

although a little early, a couple of things are obvious as needs for next year...we need to focus draft on WR, Saftey, LB...

Disagree about Heath being soft. He can lay the wood if given the chance. His coverage skills is what I am concerned about. But being soft....no way, he has always been able to have big hits.

Maybe he just needs more playing time for his coverage skills. I been critical of him, but if we are willing, well, some are, to give Jaylon Smith playing time to get back to his college self. Then give Heath some playing time to settle in as a starter. He has been a spot player and sT's ace from a very small college. He was drafted because he is a very good athlete and was to be brought along slowly. however injuries made him play not prepared, so he has always had a bad rep from that.

As I sai, I been critical, but I am now wiling to wait and see how he does. Maybe this pick to basically seal the win gives him confidence to improve even more.
He did almost have one earlier, but the KC WR made the catch.

I agree, this defense was amazing yesterday. I was totally wrong, I expected them to get run over all day.

I only hope that it wasn't a one week blip on the radar, but truly a sign of things to come that they are, in fact, getting it together and starting to fire on all cylinders.

If that happens with this offense? We can play with anybody.

Heath had a nice pick which I was impressed with, but that Tyreek Hill TD did not sit well with me. We had 7 DBs back there, Heath included, and they all wanted to play it timid against the fastest guy in the league.

Great job by the D!

The Chiefs have lost 3 of their last 4 now.
I think KC's offensive line has taken a hit. They've now gone a few games in a row without rushing for 100 yards.
They need that bye week, I guess.
I should've sold high on Kareem Hunt in fantasy. Could've landed any player out there. Oh well.

Hill is a special runner in the open field
In hindsight mine have been smart to put someone on him man to man and drop the rest

I would rather not play that package. I like the pressure our front 4 generates.

So it was all on Heath?
Scandrick was right there, so were others. Where was Heath on the play, close, 10 yards away?

This was on the stupid coaches as well. With that many players back I knew they would throw it underneath.
In the past Marinelli would have at least 3 players 10 to 15 years off the LOS. This was more on the coaches as opposed to the players.

Not saying its all on Heath. He's a safety right? The last line of defense. I saw a group of guys sit back and not attack and yes, the coaches did a terrible job calling that.

I know he's a punching bag, and sometimes deservedly so, but Jason Garrett has done a tremendous job this year.

-Dealing with the suspension off/on with Zeke
-Being aggressive and going for it on 4th down; specifically vs. Wash, GB. I think they're 6/6 this year on 4th and short
-Keeping the team focused after yesterday's end of half meltdown and subsequent KC drive to start the 2nd that could have lead to a terrible collapse
-Staying aggressive on 3rd an 15 with 1:30 left at your own 13 that lead to the 2nd TD
-3rd and short in the 4th quarter roll out bootleg to Terrance to take more time off the clock (Linehan's play call, but Garrett was surely involved and coaching his coach)
-I've always said Garrett is a terrific coach Mon-Sat, but he's getting better on Sunday

I think the biggest reason the defense wasn't playing as well was because Hitchens and Lee were not on the field together at the beginning of the season. The LB play has been much improved since Lee and Hitchens have been in the line up.

what I have seen of heath in multiple games that he is not a wrap up tackler. he tries to lay the wood, but he puts his head down and doesn't make sound tackles and players have been bouncing off of him. sorry color me not impressed. a definite need in next year's draft.

What were the Kansas City targets to their WR's yesterday - and completions....
A team with that record should have been better at getting ball to WR's.

It reminds me of a few years back when Kansas City hade only 2 or 3 TD's from their WR's in the entire year.

This defense is definitely on the upswing and improving each week. The pass rush is especially impressive now and that will only make the secondary's job that much easier. Hopefully, Awuzie will get better to help us make a playoff run. Let's just hope our guys stay healthy in the meantime, as well. Dak is obviously improving each and every week, which also bodes well for a late-season surge. I think we'll do just fine.

And Smith having much fewer snaps as a result.

I like our starting linebackers.
