All this talk about Flo's contract making him untouchable.

It's been something like 3 years since he signed his new contract. How much of it is left?

Even if he were dropped today, I don't think the salary cap impact would be too high, as we've already eaten 3-4 years of it. What's the accelerated signing bonus?

I think Flo is the last remaining remnant of the Gailey/Campo legacy. Time to move on. The moment he's gone, all traces of the bad vibes will disappear.

I know LT's are hard to come by, but Flo has hardly played up to his billing (or his contract). Teams with better LT's are sitting at home. Teams with good LT's are still in the hunt.

5 year $25 million with a $10 million signing bonus I beleive. I think that was in 2003. About $7 million a year.

Wow, that sounds like chump change. I thought it was some sort of dehabilitating signing bonus which would cripple us for years.

That sounds like the same contract Rivera received.

IMO Unless Flo can show himself as fully recovered then I would look to move him to guard. Flo started off with us playing guard and won rookie honors in that role. One thing is for sure he had problems with speed rushes this past season and that has to improve if he is to continue to play tackle.

Im all for cutting the fat underachieving load....save us some jack and all...but you actually make a valid point. Move his large carcass to Guard. Then we don't have to draft a OG but instead we can either sign a FA OT (Pashos or Black) or draft someone like Justin Blalock.

but who do we replace him with?

realistically

Flo should not be given a free pass at LT just because we don't have anyone to replace him with at the moment. Nothing wrong with drafting or bringing in a young FA.

I'd take a young, hungry player with upswing that what we have now in Flo.

We ignored the OT position to draft a TE. We had our possible replacement right there. So there's no saying what we've given up or who we've passed up.

Positions should no longer be locked. Flo hasn't been Flo in quite some time.

I think it's about time to completely change the old guard. No more remants from the Gailey/Campo era along the OL. If nothing more than being symbolic.

Why cut him? He is worth keeping around. Any o-line needs depth and he can play tackle and some guard. Sure, try to upgrade if you can, but quality deph is important. He will be able to get in a full off season of training this year and I think that will make some difference. I don't think it is a good idea to just throw him away. He can still contribute even if he is not the starter. His salary is not going to prohibit the Cowboys from making other moves.

If McQ can beat him out move him to RG

Too tall. He's a perfect RT, IMO, and represents an upgrade over Columbo who is average. I agree that a young, powerful LT is a need for this OL. That and a guard, of course.

True:

1998: The Cowboys second-round choice (38th overall), Adams was forced into extended work as a rookie after injuries to right guard Everett McIver. He started 10 games in place of McIver, who suffered serious injuries to both knees. Adams's 12 total starts were the most ever by a Dallas rookie offensive lineman. Although inexperienced, and playing a new position, he earned All-Rookie recognition and was a key part of a Dallas line that allowed just 19 quarterback sacks - the fewest in the NFL. Adams was marked ready for duty in the Dallas opener against Arizona (9/6), where he was used as a third tight end on short yardage situations. Adams wound up playing the final three quarters of the game at right tackle after starter Erik Williams was ejected. Adams helped the Dallas offense amass 444 total yards (188 rushing) against the Cardinals - both totals were the team's highest since 1996. In addition, the offensive line did not allow a sack of Aikman in 32 pass plays. The next three weeks, Adams saw considerable action at tight end as a short yardage blocker, and earned a starting assignment against Oakland (9/27) as the team opened the game in a two-tight end set. After McIver went down with his first knee injury at Washington (10/4), Adams earned his first start at right guard against Carolina (10/11). Against the Panthers, Dallas rolled up 428 yards of total offense. In his first five starts at right guard, Adams helped Smith rack up four 100-yard rushing games, including a season-high 163 yards on 29 carries (5.6 avg.) against the N.Y. Giants (11/8). In that battle with the Giants, the Dallas offensive line allowed no sacks to a New York defense that led the NFL in sacks during the 1998 season. Adams did not start against Seattle (11/22), but he entered the game when McIver tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Adams started the remaining five regular season games at right guard and earned his first postseason experience by starting against Arizona (1/2/99) in the playoff loss at Texas Stadium.

Good point. I forgot McIver got hurt and Adams replaced him for most of the season. He also replaced Big E opening day against Arizona. He's lost a lot of the quickess he used to have, though, and not being the most agile of fellows he's likely not going to be good at pulling.

I also still think he's a bit tall for guard and is talented enough to play either tackle spot, but he's much better suited to RT because of his size, strength, and better hearing. He won't have to deal with the quickest pass rushers there either.

Summer, think we can repeal the 22nd amendment? Change is too scary for me.

I think we should have kept Larry Allen, Pettiti and shouldn't even consider getting rid of Rivera. I prefer stability to upgrading the talent.

that's the thing, I keep asking who we replace Flo w/, which is a realistic upgrade, and still get no answers
