What is so special about Osa Odighizuwa?

Osa should be only in on passing situations too small to stop the run

He should be a DE.
On 1st & 2nd downs (in more obvious run situations), I think they should do the hybrid 4-3/3-4 alignment with Osa @ 5T, Clark @ 3T, and (I guess) Toia at NT…OR Clark at NT and Thomas @ 3T. At this point, they need to try anything. I would definitely trade Osa and a 1 to the Titans for Simmons.

It was his pressure grades and advanced analytics that got him paid.

It doesn't seem to translate a whole lot on the field though.

Still, one has to wonder how much of that is because hes surrounded with a trash defense.

A lot of our guys get over hyped, but you also have a lot of our guys who go to other teams and do really well.

Besides Quinn, we always seem to have crap d coordinators. That has to be part of the problem right?

Osa
Clark
Houston

Are the only ones worth keeping on the Dline. Good riddance to everyone else.

And, like Crawford, Osa is a nice player that was massively overrated by a football-dumb front office.
At DT they are always wanting to treat players that make nice Robins (sidekicks) out to be Batman.
Osa is the type of player you sign for depth at a low cost to fill out the roster that you are pleasantly surprised when he notches you 5 sacks.
The DT equivalent to what Dante Fowler was at DE when Dallas signed him back when Quinn was DC.
Is there really all that much difference between Osa and Watkins, who we had a year or so ago?

When I suggesting Jerry made a mistake paying him $20 million, and I would have let him walk, I got a lot of pushback. He is a good player at times, but not good enough. The Cowboys need better on defense especially. They could have signed Madubuike, for example. The problem is, at 6'2" 280 he is small for a DT. If he was stronger or quicker maybe that would not matter. BUt he isn't Aaron Donald, so bigger strong offensive linemen move him off the LOS.

However, I am more concerned that the DEs are getting shoved around by TEs and WRs. This should never happen but it happened all day yesterday and it was the reason Rico was ripping of 7 -12 yards at a pop. Say what you want about Micah Parsons, but TEs did not block him out of the play. Micah's problem was over pursuit and taking himself out of the play. The Cowboys need stronger players on the ends.

He's not a game changer. But I don't think anyone thought he was? Another guy just waiting for that stud draft pick on the line that makes everyone play better.

That’s the neat thing. There’s nothing special about him. He is a below average run defender and ok pass rusher.

Yet the cowboys FO decided to overpay him.
That’s because they love overpaying their own picks because in their heads it justify’s their draft. Osa is an average to an above average player at times.

I don’t see it. I barely notice the guy is even playing every week but I haven’t seen one play where he makes a significant contribution.

This FO has always hyped this guy but he’s a part of the problem that’s been plaguing this franchise for the past decade on defense.
Nothing. Depth player on most NFL teams.

Eze is the only one getting pressure hed be the only one Id keep and perhaps Clark. Osa is good depth as is houston
Forgot to mention EE, yes he needs to be kept too. I wonder how he would do if they started stunting him inside. They're so predictable with him crashing the outside all of the time.

They should try Osi at DE on 1st and 2nd downs. They should play two +300 pound DTs to help from getting pushed around in the run game. DO NOT ever put Sam Williams at 3 technique.

Always like the ideal of 2 DT 320lbs or more playing together on the inside, they always liked that one of those DT being able to get a push for the rush( under 300), well that hasn’t worked out to well, while still getting no rush on the pass or being able to stop anyone on the run.

Is he above average? Seriously, when and where has that been?
he is not a difference maker. he needs a couple of good players around him and it allows him to be more attacking making plays. at 20M/year that's what you are going to get. right now the DEs suck. the LBs are awful. the CBs are awful and I would rather put a statue in the middle of the field than our current safeties because at least the statues would get in the way from time to time.
you want a difference maker? lets pay about 40M.

100%

I challenge anyone on the forum to name a single game that Osa dominated or was the difference maker.

He is a PFF darling, but even that has slipped this year

Overall he is an above average starter, but not any kind of foundational player

They said the same the thing about Maliek Collins, who is now dominant elsewhere.
