What is taking so long with Greg Hardy?

The point the league is trying to make is......they want this to be as painful as possible so every player won't want to go through this "process" of challenging the NFL.

That makes no sense given that they handed down a ridiculous punishment knowing full well it would be challenged. If they had give him the appropriate 2 or even 4 games there would have been no challenge.

Brady is getting 4 games and he is going to challenge.

The cynic in me says that a decision has been made already and there is little or no reduction in games suspended. The league is trying to give the appearance that a due diliberation is ongoing and that the process is transparent, etc when in fact the league is scared to death to do anything meaningful to give Hardy a reduction for fear of a bad reaction from pressure groups. Politics and sports have merged.

Absolutely, politics and sports have merged. I fully expect Caitlyn Jenner to be named commissioner any day now.

That said, the league can't continue to have its rulings trashed and thrown out at every turn on this stuff. Why even bother with league hearings if they hold no legal water at all? Its becoming a kangaroo court.

I think they want this one to stick.

There is no way with a straight face an arbitrator can say it was 4 separate incidents and that guns were involved.

The whole basis for the 10 games was a spit in the eye to the Doty and Jones rulings in the Peterson and Rice cases.

But we know Henderson is a joke and he will uphold the entire 10 games.

This is going back to Federal Court.

It's not like the stuff that goes on in the players' personal lives is directly related to the league, anyway. Sure, these guys have testosterone flowing because of their jobs, and the lifestyle of what they get paid puts them in some compromising positions, but that's not really the league's fault. What goes on in their personal lives is not a football matter. They really ought to just keep their noses out of it and only try to help the victims philanthropically if they're worried about the issues or the impact. The way it is now, each time something happens, they've trained us all to say 'here we go again, how are you going to handle it *this* time, NFL?" That's a no-win proposition for a sports league.

DV is no more a problem in the NFL than it is on Wall St, Main St or any other workplace.

It is not caused by playing football or related in any way.

Why they think they can solve it nationally by harping on it is beyond me.

The Court just set Aug 13th as the date to hear the Contempt of Court charge the NFLPA filed against the League in regards to the Doty ruling.

This is not looking like the Hardy situation will be resolved anytime soon.

What does that have to do with the precedent and documented punishment for the Hardy violation? Is Brady's punishment out of sink with established parameters? Why is Brady contesting?

You've got to compare apples to apples man,,,

and even though 2-4 games would have been appropriate given the old policy, most would say this was another Ray Rice-esq screw up

I don't understand what's taking so long either. Shouldn't have the decision been made at the court hearing? If they didn't make a decision at the hearing, what exactly did they accomplish?

Murder trials take less time than the lazy *** NFL appeal process.

I know the NFL does not look weak but proper protocol here is to say, "This happened under the old rules and has to follow the old guidelines, new rules have been implemented and any cases happening from this day forward follow those rules." The NFL is over compensating for the fact the Ray Rice tape made it into the public's eye.

I won't be shocked if this "appeal" drags out for months. Because we all know how busy the court system is.........

It's ridiculious to think he could miss 25 games in all......for a crime he was never convicted of.:(

Even for a conviction of vehicular manslaughter, that penalty was not given out after all was considered.

I suppose you're right, but I'll add this. If he were simply going to uphold it, I would think that would be out by now. I really think the league wants this ruling to be final, so there could very well be a negotiation plea going on. If it's ruled to be six games or more, Hardy can just appeal it and get that reduced easily. The league knows that and wants to avoid it, I believe.

The NFL looks really weak with these rulings repeatedly getting overturned in "real" court.

Maybe so, or maybe they are thinking that announcing the decision too soon would make it seem obvious that the decision on the appeal was made even before the appeal was heard.

It has to do with the time, I'm sorry fans are not getting the answers they want right now, Jones commented on the time frame it is what it is. Also this has nothing to do with the Dallas Cowboys and some deep seeded hatred. Others teams stayed away from Hardy for this reason and now people here want to act as if someone has it out for the Cowboys? Dallas knew what they were getting into that is why the contract was written as it is.

Only reason I bring up Brady is they are doing him no favor he will not even get a hearing on his appeal until June 23 and then he will sit and wait just as well before they announce their decision

Sure there would, the NFLPA appeals nearly all punishments because that's what they're paid to do - back the players.

I agree with you that it makes no sense to drag it out for the sake of making the process painful, but mostly because his original suspension already says he can practice so whether they give the verdict now or well into preseason, it doesn't change what he's able to do day to day.

We've already taken precautions against his suspension, so really all we want to know is if we'll have him for more regular season games or not, and that's more of a fan question at this point.
