Maybe it has been exaggerated or maybe it has not. I would think that being (to my knowledge) Cincy was the only team that expressed any interest in a former multi year Pro Bowler who is only 28 years old, that his play must have dropped off significantly.

If Dallas had released him and a bit of bidding war ensued I would have to admit that my assessment of him was wrong, but to me this only reinforces my opinion that his level of play had dropped dramatically.

bingo.

uhhh...yeah...it is.

when someone suggests that its "not beyond the realm of possibility" that he could have a good season?

You're a prime example of what we were referring to.

The media is nothing more than a bunch of hacks that talk out of both sides of their mouths.

The same media that have said for years TO is a cancer, now say Dallas has lost it's #1 playmaker.

RW38 will be a good player for Cincy.

Tank Johnson will be a good player for Cincy.

Give me a break, all three of these players are past their primes.

Oh agree that some of the play was exaggerated. People tend to say things such as player so and so "always", "never", "can't", and etcetera which is an over exaggeration.

My point is the play has declined enough for Dallas to release a former #1 pick, Pro Bowler, who is still young, recently signed to a big contract, playing a position of need and then the player on the free market does not generate a big contract or much interest and ends up with the Bengals.

In a court of law, I am sure criminals are on death row with less circumstantial evidence working against them than that.

I suspect he did have at least one other offer, since they acknowledged in his press conference that Cincy offered the most money and the chance to reunite with Zimmer. Since we'll know in a week or so that Cincy didn't really offer that much money, that's pretty much a tacit acknowledgement that his market value had declined.

That said, RW went from being one of the most overrated players in the league, to being one of the most underrated in about a 5-year span.

The Marvin Lewis presser was aired on NFLN last night. I almost had to puke. Some of the stuff he said was unbelieveable. Boy is he in for a surprise this summer.

allow me toclarify:

a) Bingo: He is right, no bidding war probably a good sign that NO ONE wants you,

b) Uh Comment: If you have been crappy and declining for 4 years you ain't gonna have a turn around this year.

I wouldnt be surprised if he had a decent yr for them.

Sitting out most of last yr may end up being good for him. I think one of the reasons he has dropped off somewhat is because he played so all out physical all the time early on, it resulted in his body taking a tremendous beating and breaking down. Maybe the extra time off will have helped him in that way.

The other thing that was noticeable to me is the passion for the game didnt seem to be there the last two, maybe three seasons. He just didnt seem like he was "into" the game as he was his first 3 seasons or so.

Does Cincy have to comply with the no horsecollar rule? Roy hasn't been the same since they implemented that. Maybe he can go back to it now that he is not in Dallas.

This argument is one of the most ridiculous one's made for why Roy hasn't been the player he was when drafted.

Can't believe that people subscribe to it.

Being a regional marketing rep...hours upon hours are spent in the car for me...Now, today I am listening to Solomon Wilcots and Adam Schein and I am hearing what a tremendous sign Roy Williams is for Cincy.

***?

They are saying what a great hitter he is and how a 5 time pro bowler will assist this defense. Are they talking about the same guy we saw over the past 4 years??? The same guy that teams were not afraid to come across the middle on because he was so worried about getting beat deep that he didn't hit anyone? the same guy that 1...count em...1 team had an interest in?

Am I in a 5 year time warp here or what?

I think they were much closer to right than wrong on their opinions of the RW signing in Cinci. Her is reunited with Zimmer. This is the same coach he saw his better days under and Zim will put Roy in position to make plays. He knows Roy's strengths and weaknesses intimately. I think Roy will rebound under Zimmer and have a pretty decent year.

Well aren't you just the selective reader....you should probably stick to yelling at Ed Werder rather than actually having an opinion....and I say that knowing full well that you're entitled to one. It's just that yours are overwhelmingly dumb, and you fail miserably at conveying them with any conviction.

He knew his strengths and weaknesses in 05 and 06 too. How did that work out?

The guy cannot turn and run with the ball in the air and as soon as everyone realized he had a giant bullseye on his back. He did nothing to remove it.

I loved the guy. He is a good dude. Unfortunately he had a major flaw for the position he plays coupled with a poor attitude.

oh and I dont listen to sirius nfl radio, I have in little bits and pieces, but solomon wilcots is the biggest bengals homer, the only bengals homer besides boomer esiason and he boosts up the rainbow factor on all things cincy. Thats fine with me.

Doesn't Cincy run a 4-3 defense? IMO, Williams is a SS that has to play close to the line to have an impact. Before BP came in, he played close to the line and was extremely productive. I'll wait to see if a system change is what he needed or if his skills have really dropped off.

Get used to it people. He's no longer in Dallas. I've heard nothng but positive reports about T.O. in Buffalo. I'm guessing he'll be portraid as a "drama-less" saint there. Just watch.

I don't really want to stoke this debate an further, but while I agree that his level of play has declined, I think it's beyond belief the extent that many people have gone to express their disapproval of Williams. To say that it was exaggerated is fact, not opinion.

Unfortunately for Williams, I think the way the game is played now has been as heavy a burden on his play as has been his extra baggage. He certainly didn't do enough to counter the changes....but it is what it is. I think he'll be OK in Cinci if they can limit his coverage duties.

...and Roy's agent claimed that several teams came knocking....not that he would lie or anything....:D

Roy's issue was he was being paid to be one of the top safeties in the game and he was playing like a solid but unspectacular safety.

When you sign a large contract and do not live up to the contract then fans angst get even more flare because now they see you costing the team a chance to sign a better player in FA because you chew up salary cap.

Which was my issue with Roy was he was not making the big plays anymore and we where paying him to make big plays on a regular basis

Hey. I'm not saying he is going to suddenly rebound and be all world. I think you got my point when you first read my rebuttal but you just wanted to argue for the sake of it. I take stock in everything that happened for his career playing under Zimmer. The fact is that he had more good years than bad years. He'll be fine this year. He stunk up the joint in Big D his last couple of years playing but I still wish him the best. I appreciate what he brought early in his career when he brought it.
