Per Article VI, Section 6.5(G) of the NFL’s Constitution and Bylaws:

In the event that the Commissioner or any other officer of the League shall be convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude or be physically or mentally incapacitated to perform his duties or shall fail or refuse to abide by the Constitution and Bylaws of the League, and the Executive Committee finds that such action by such officer is detrimental to the best interests of the League, or in the event the Commissioner or any other officer of the League fails or is unwilling to perform his duties, then such Committee shall have the power after notice and hearing to suspend or remove said officer and to terminate any contract between such Commissioner or officer and the League.

Per the NFL’s personal conduct policy, which was updated to include the more stringent policies for those charged of domestic violence, “all persons associated with the NFL are required to avoid “conduct detrimental to the integrity of and public confidence in the National Football League.”

Such “detrimental” conduct includes an action “that undermines or puts at risk the integrity and reputation of the NFL, NFL clubs, or NFL players.”

If the labor talks go as poorly as I expect, a lot of people will be in the hot seat.
The talks will go along according to the owners demands. Right or wrong. The owners know the players will lose big in a strike. The players union will settle for more money, thats really about all they can do. For Goodell, he will follow the instructions of his bosses. I never believed he made any big decisions without the blessing of the ownership. He is really just the, highly bad, fall guy for the most powerfull core of the owners.

IMO 99% of the players union really don't care about the discipline powers of the commissioner. It only affects a small percentage of the union including the retired players. They care more about long term care and retirement monies ect.

If it came to a vote among active and retired players, they would choose increased benefits, health care, and money over issues such as discipline.

I guess the players reps have to fight for what the majority of the union cares about

Yep. Thats the rub. The NFLPA is certainly not going to worry about a handful of troublesome players. This is a business for them. They are in bed with the owners and they are in business together. This is not a real union in the old time tradition its more of a rich partnership. Heck, the fans should start a union to save the heart of the game.

Simple, he must lose 75 percent of the owners confidence. He works for them. He seems very confident in his authority. It seems, to me, that he makes his outrageous decisions with the blessing of the majority of this bosses. Otherwise, he wouldn't do it??

It's really that simple. He's Darth Vader...everyone watching episode 4+5 thinks he's the bad guy, but he's actually a puppet

Goodell is getting a 5 year extension. 0% he gets fired. He works for the owners and the owners love him.

Yeah, Goodell is just a sock puppet for the owners. He's objectively terrible at his job, but as long as the league is making big profits the owners simply don't care in the slightest.
