Crayton >>>>>>>>>> Austin

Hurd too for that matter

Whoever is making plays is my favorite.

I'd rather bicker about our own guys than deal with threads about bringing in Marvin Harrison, Matt Jones or Torry Holt.

Having four wideouts of our own in need of playing time is a good problem to have.

I was most impressed with the WR screen we ran to Austin.

He made a nice catch on a high throw (while coming back to the ball), broke a couple of tackles, kept his balance, and made a nice first down.

Is he a great route runner? I don't know....I don't get the pleasure of seeing him run all his routes from beginning to end.

Does he get open a lot? Yes.....

Has he made strides? Yes....

Why so many hate this guy I'll never know. My guess is that it goes back to last year when so many wanted him cut before camp started and were proven wrong by how he could improve.

Those people are also mad that he is challenging board-favorite, Sam Hurd.

I just can't understand why folks can't like all of our players. Especially the ones that work hard and contribute....like Hurd and Austin.

It's not hate for me. It's just watching a kid that so many have high hopes for turn in journeyman work time and again.

I have yet to see a play by this player that at the end I said, "Wow!!!"

From last night alone I see more potential in Ogletree than Austin.
Speed is not something i am overly impressed with if the other traits of a good WR are not evident.

Route running, solid soft hands, run after the catch.

He possesses some of those. others he demonstrates sporadically. Some he outright hasn't shown at all.

In the mix, he will be a contributor. But the fandom that believes he will have close to 1000 yards and 9 TDs is wrong. I expect about twice what he posted last year.

If he stays healthy.

This is a big overreation to a bad route that Babe pointed out that Austin also slipped on. Austin has greatly improved his route running overall.

I have little argument with these points.

It just seems, for some reason, that folks are harder on Austin than they should be.

He came in very raw as a rookie, and has worked his way into being an important contributor on our team.

His athletic ability sets him apart from our other wideouts. And, while I agree that we've had major disappointments in the past (Macy Brooks, Randal Williams, and Dev Johnson), Austin has done something those guys never did.

He's produced in games.

He still has time.....he's still improving. And, there's little chance of him becoming a 1,000 yard receiver. But I think he's close to being a poor-man's Alvin Harper.

Austin needs to be more consistent. He needs more touches. Touches are at a premium it appears.

We don't need him to be a 1,000 yard receiver.

We just need a guy who is capable of making big plays for us.

Never mind Austin. Has anyone noticed that Tony jumps/hops into the air on shotgun snaps, even if the snap isn't high? Can't believe the coaches haven't corrected this by now. You're losing precious seconds when your feet aren't on the ground.

i like players that work hard but they have to produce and he has been given every opportunity to. it's clear that they are commited to him this year and thats fine i hope he proves everybody wrong and stays healthy to boot.

but after this year if he isnt the clear #2, and that should be easy to tell, then he needs to walk and we need to bring in somebody that will help us win football games

Are you saying Miles Austin, a receiver who caught 3 touchdowns in a four week stretch last year, can only help the Cowboys if he's starting?

That is crazy talk.

We've got a nice stable of receivers and all can do different things to help the team win games.

Is it just me or does he note sell his moves (cuts) very well? I think that is Witten's best trait, but when I watch Austin run his routes, I would sware it was a red shirt high school receiver doing it.

What makes it worse is Garrett loves the double moves so he has to do it twice and fails both times. :bang2:

I think he should work with Witten to improve this. Sherman doesn't seem to be helping him with it.

Cant say I have noticed this, he gets open frequently so whatever he is doing is working.

His route running has improved alot since his first yr here.

Wow, so I'm watching this game now, and I don't get all the Austin hate coming from this game. He looks just fine. He slipped on that comeback route, but otherwise is having a good game.

Ogletree had a couple catches, but still looks a little timid to me. And he's still obviously doing "rookie mistake" type things like jumping to catch that ball that was about his waist.

Love Ogletree. But if anyone watched this game and thinks he's above Austin on the roster, they're just being hopeful and ignorant.

Tony Romo unfortunately threw behind Miles Austin on the 20 yard crossing route last night.

Austin had to stop and fall backward to make the catch.

If the pass was on time and in front of Austin?

Play time!

That would have been fun to watch.
Watch the replay of this play from a better angle.

Romo made a great throw. He fired it into the hole of the zone, and Austin did a nice job of stopping and reaching back for the catch.

Had Romo tried hitting Austin in stride, it a) would've been picked off/knocked down by the defender patrolling that zone, or b) it would've had to be a perfect lob over the defender's head to hit Austin in stride... and I don't think it's generally a good habit for a QB to lob passes into the middle of the field like that.

Poor guy is just preparing for a Gurode airball.

Tony Romo picked Miles Austin up too late.

An on time throw could have been placed in the same spot and allowed Austin to run with the ball. Romo just didn't find Austin quick enough for that.

Michael Irvin used to jump frequently when he didn't have to. If I'm not mistaken Terry Glenn did also. I'm not arguing Ogletree vs. Austin just making an observation.

That's true. It wasn't a "bad throw" like others are assuming, because Tony threw it where he threw it on purpose.

You're right about him spotting Austin late, but it's not always realistic for a throw/catch to be that in sync.

Romo may have been going through his progressions and spotted the soft spot in the zone after going through other reads initially.

Keep in mind, he had ALL day to throw on that one, and he knew it.
