Let's see. To evaluate the head coach, we first need to look at the team's performance and talent.
Performance: We're 3-2. The two losses:
1. We lost to a team that has an argument for being the best in football, on the last play of the game.
2. We lost on the road, in Denver, after a short week, against a team that's now 5-0 after beating the Patriots. And we had a very good chance to tie on the last two plays of the game.
Now, to be fair, the win at KC last week was beyond ugly.
The defense (Wade's purview) was poor the first two games, but has stiffened considerably since, particularly notable against Denver.
Talent: There's a lot of talent on the team, but there are also some pretty glaring areas of weakness that are being exploited. We're terrible at safety. We have few effective pass rushers. We have a very weak WR corps. Our return teams are still awful (though our coverage and kick teams have improved). Our pass blocking is not strong.
Most folks had us pegged as an 8-10 win team this season. I don't see that anything's happened in the first five weeks to change that projection, with one exception: the schedule looks stronger, with the way Denver, Seattle and NO are playing.
So I'll say Wade's doing an average job.
