What kind of offense do you envision?

Me?

I envision us being a 2TE set base offense with multiple looks. It's no secret that Bledsoe needs protection to succeed (what QB doesn't?). I think Julius be a fine rusher w/o a FB. In fact, I think it suits his style better. Having a lead FB gives up what hole you're running through. Julius has had most of his success on draw plays where a FB is not needed. The 2 TE or "max protect" blocking scheme suits his style of running better anyways IMO.

This also put the best 11 players on the field IMO with Cambell and Witten out there instead of whoever wins the 3rd WR spot. Of course, at this point this is just speculation. But with this offense you actually have 3 (or 4 or 5 if Cambell and Jones are recievers) passing options and the "statue" of Bledsoe will be provided with the protection he needs to acquire the time to make his read and complete his passes.

Of course I am not saying I envision this to be the only look we field out there this year, but I'm betting we see more 2 TE sets than we've seen in a long time. And it showcases our strongpoints which IMO is the offensive line.

What are your thoughts?

Have to agree on the 2 TE sets but I also see quite a few 3WR sets with Crayton and Morgan in the mix. The draw has been Jones best play so far in his career.

Play action play action play action.

Regardless of the formation, we will almost always go with a running play. Pound the ball, eat up the clock, try to reduce the turnovers and protect Bledsoe as much as possible. We will only pass when necessary to keep the defense honest.

I wished we would run an offense similar to the 90's were we would be balanced in the first half opening up a bit, get a lead, and let the defense feed while we pound the ball.

If the offensive line improves and bledsoe is a super bus driver, I believe there is a good chance of this happening.

As opposed to 2003 when we had to pass to set up the run ...

... But I don't agree on the only pass when necessary (whatever that means) ... I think we have all the tools it takes to be a good passing team. And Parcells will keep them honest with play action passes and draws, but we'll see some passing this year. Believe that.

Typical Parcells, run, short passes, run some more, a little play action, and a deep one or two inside the 50.

We will run the ball a lot from 3 wide and pass more in 2 TE.

Ball control and field position.

Hoping to get a play or two on special teams and a short field on a turnover caused by the defense.

Think we'll see less trick plays now (flea flickers, non-quarterback passes) with Maurice Carthon gone to Cleveland? I know Parcells loves the end around, but I'm not sure how he feels about the unconventional trick plays.

Are you kidding?

Parcells loves the HB pass and flea flicker etc ...

He's a master at those sorts of plays ...

I fully expect to see at least a trick play or two a game ...

I don't think Carthon was calling plays.

That probably had a lot to do with him taking a lateral move.

I always thought it was Carthon with the hardon for trick plays, I didn't follow Parcells closely enough to know what his tendencies are when it comes to those types of plays, that's why I asked. ;)

I won't know til I see them in games. He could have gone soft in his old age. I'll take your word for it however, for now.

BTW offtopic, one of the most amazing plays of last season was from Richie Anderson during the Steeler game (too bad he tarnished his performance at the end). Dallas starts a drive at the 16. Vinny passes to Anderson for 8, 2nd and 2. Vinny gets called for intentional grounding, loss of yards. 3rd and 12. Then Flozell gets called for false start, 5 more yards. 3rd and 17 at the Dallas 9.

Parcells is on the sidelines going ballistic, and he screams just run a draw. Total giveup play. Anderson runs a shotgun draw for 18 yards and a first down. Totally amazing.

And the lateral at the end, only thing that coulda made that game more exciting woulda been a win.

Sorry to hijack your thread with the reminiscing, but I've been rewatching games as of late and had forgotten how great that game was, because during the season all you care about is the win, and we didn't get it.

Its exciting because if we almost beat Pittsburgh with Tyrone Williams playing RCB, Dixon playing safety, and Eddie George in the backfield, just think of what the Cowboys can do with an improved defense (can't get much worse) and a potent offense.

I think we'll see alot of Campbell/Witten, a dangerous run game, and a good pass offense opened up by the rush.

Alright, I'm gonna finish watching Dallas whoop up on the Bills in SB 28.

Speaking of calling plays... is parcells still calling them this year or will Payton have those duties? I thought I remember reading earlier this summer that Payton may be calling the plays.

For the offensive allignment I agree with you BNA. The 2TE set will probably be our main formation (as long as our TEs stay healthy) with the 3WR set thrown in there about 30% of the time to mix things up.

I only see the "I" formation used about 10% as our FBs just aren't getting it. I wonder how many times we'll see a backfield with two HBs in there like an A-Train and JJ combination? I know Parcells has mentioned using this formation during some of his earlier PCs.

I think many assume Payton will be calling them because of the defensive changes demanding a more hands on approach from parcells.

Cowboys | T. Williams Suspended
Wed, 8 Dec 2004 19:06:05 -0800

CB Tyrone Williams, who was released injured by the Dallas Cowboys Saturday, Nov. 13, and then placed on injured reserve, has been suspended two games by the NFL for violating the league's personal conduct code. Since Williams is being paid during his time on IR, he will be docked two game checks as a result of the suspension, and will lkely be released by the team once he passes a physical, according to Rob Phillips of DallasCowboys.com.

Funny thing is, even with Tyrone in there, Roethlisberger picked on Newman the whole game, with much success. That was the game that really inflated his rookie head, because he pretty much walked all over us. Oh no, Tony Dixon is blitzing!
