I'm watching NFL Playbook on the NFL Network. And they have a feature on Tight Ends this past weekend...

Highlighting Jeremy Shockey and Antonio Gates. The tag line was "Sterling will show you why these two tight ends, Jeremy Shockey and Antonio Gates, help their quarterback and their offenses be more productive."

This is ridiculous! Jason Witten still doesn't get his deserved due. He has the best weekend out of all the TEs on a national stage! And the idiot shockey is all anyone talks about.

Gonzalez is the best pass catching TE in the league and he wasnt on there either.

Who cares?

Was. Not any more. Not even the best in his own division.

Gonzalez was the best, Gates is the best, and Winslow will be the best pass catching TEs.

Shockey has the biggest mouth, Heap has the name recognition, and Witten will continue to be the most underrated.

....as much as I hate to say it......Cooley is severely underrated as well. Eric Johnson is also in for a big year in New Orleans.

Witten will finally get the recognition he deserves this year. Cowboys will be on national television quite a bit this year and if Cowboys use the playbook as Garrett has set it up then Witten will see a lot of action and rack up those catches, yardage & TDs. As for as Shockey, he lives in NY with all those networks so they settle for him. Shockey is nowhere near the TE that Witten isn't and glad he's not a Cowboy.

No Witten is the best all around tight end.

Yeah, he is, I would probably put him at like #7 behind those top 6. Crumpler is a decent choice also, just doesn't have someone to get him the ball.

cause there was a list and a cowboy wasn't on it so there are some fans who'll feel slighted and must cry foul.

Shockey is a better football player than Witten - Witten can't pass block or run block and has the "slips" - Shockey is a leader and gamechanger.
Shockey is a more Kellen Winslow type where Witten is more a Doug Cosbie.

Crumpler has some real problems with his knee. He's not the same.

Agreed. I just wish he'd get the credit he deserves. It's little segments like this that get the player recognition. Witten is the best TE in the league, in my opinion, because he's an all around TE.

He blocks better than gates, gonzales, shockey, cooley, and winslow. And he's just as good a pass catcher, and a better route runner thanks to Mr. Novacek.

He should get the recognition he deserves.

I love Witten and all but to suggest he's just as good a pass catcher as Antonio Gates tells me you haven't seen enough of Antonio Gates (with all due respect to Witten). Gates is invaluable and by far the best overall TE in the league.

Yeah, getting older like TGon, but he still deserves respect.

I have to agree, I did say pass catching TEs btw. TGon, Gates and Kellen don't have as much help in the passing game, teams gameplan them first, Witten just has alot more help.

He has been in the league for 5 years and been to 3 pro bowls. How much more recognition could he get than that?

I was thinking the same thing. He's gotten the accolades thus far that he deserves IMO.
