I think we need to upgrade the O line and our strong and free saftey positons. and we need to add depth to our Qb's ,wr's , MLB's , and CB

The same as the past few years: S (stud), OL (future stud/depth), WR (if we lose Hurd/Austin), and DT (space-eater)...
Oh yeah, maybe a young QB to put a l'il pressure on Romo just in case complacency is setting in ;)!!!

Head Coach

GM

Owner

ILB (I don't care what James' stats say, he freakin' sucks. I want an ILB that can at least cover the slow POS TE's that James' gets beat by week after week)

NG (so Ratliff can move to DE and be even more effective)

DE

Safety (giving Hamlin all that money was a mistake)

It amazes how so many people say OL, S, QB, & NT when we don't have a starting WILB now.

To me there's really only 3 right now. A starting safety, a starting ILB next to Bradie James and backup QB to develop. Getting better depth at OL would have to be up there too, with the idea being a couple of them could potentially be starters in another yr or two.

If somehow we ended up with Shanahan, a couple of our existing backup OL's might be good fits for his style of offense, namely Free, McQuistan and maybe even Berger or Proctor. Kosier also looks like a good fit for his scheme.

Pretty sure I did mention ILB, we need a 3-4 NT so Rat can stay on the field as DE.
We need a SS that can both hit and cover a TE.
Romo needs a real backup for when he's laying eggs.
Our OL speaks for itself.

What I'm amazed by are people who apparently think Dallas still runs a 4-3 defense.

LB is the likely top target for our 2nd round pick. We will be replacing Zach, likely Ellis, and possibly Burnett.

You can get a good starting quality LB in round two. Good value there. Otherwise, it is simply BPA on the defensive side and possibly the interior OL.

O line any position. If LT available move False start inside. If Center available move Gurode to LG. Max Unger Oregon is perfect guy. 1st round talent and can play any position on line, played in pro style offense at Oregon.

D' line a beefy NT or DT. Perfect guy Cody from Bama, prolly long gone by 52. A run stuffing, space eating NT/DT frees up Ratliff to move outside and uprades 2 positions at once.

Safety- A ball hawk would be nice but 3rd or 4th round somebody who can tackle and cover is acceptable.

LB- run stuffer in the 240-250 pound range, tackling machine type. Ray Lewis works here best IMO.

1. ILB

2. safety with coverage skills (so we can cut Hamlin in 2010)

3. OL depth (especially guard/center swing man)

4. backup NT (of starter quality NT so we can move Ratliff to DE if one slides to us in the second round)

5. Developmental QB (Bollinger could backup next year)

6. DE - Canty is up this year and Spears next year and don't know if we can afford to keep them with all the dead weight on the roster

7. Developmental WR to replace one or both of Stanback/Hurd if neither takes the next step in camp

i'd rather look at what positions won't be upgraded with 1-3 rd picks.

RB - best position, could ugprade FB with an UDFA
TE - could upgrade 3rd TE spot, strictly blocking TE
WR - could add a speedy wr as #5, also serves as a punt returner

that's it. then draft equal talent in this order

Dline any position can be upgraded because of ratliff's versatility. not too worried about canty leaving. think you can have spears/ratliff/hatcher without much dropoff.

Oline mostly drafting backups, but if someone can start more power to them all spots can be improved

Safety someone opposite hamlin, someone intelligent. doubt you can get a dawkins/reed in the 2nd round but someone like chris horton with intelligence and lacking the physical ability. maybe a slow big cb like tanard jackson that could be switched to safety

LB - ILB or OLB. never have too many pass rushers, spencer has shown an abiliy to stay healthy. ellis should be cut for his attitude. ILB willing to let carpenter and burnett fight it out along with a 2nd day rookie.

QB - backup not to push romo, because he doesn't need to be but to fill in when romo gets hurt.

S: With Roy Williams probably gone, we're going to need a replacement.

DE: depending on what happens with Chris Canty, this might be a priority over everything else.

ILB: Zach is gone, we need depth.

OL: Holland should be an excellent back up, maybe a starter at guard. Still, we need a back up OT and a back up C with experience, draft another OT ( or two ) to develop so he can replace FLO in 2010. IMO, we should draft two linemen and sign two linemen through free agency. Get rid of every back up lineman we currently have on the roster.

QB: The back up will be addressed through the FA market, but we have room to draft a developmental guy and KEEP him ( no more releasing hoping he goes through waivers ).

We don't need to draft any: WR, TE, RB, CB or OLB, unless somebody really, really, really special falls to us.

In no particular order: Inside LB; one or two safetys; true nose tackle; guard and tackle; backup QB; DE if we lose Canty and/or Spears. Why does everyone keep saying WR. We don't need any receivers right now. Why draft a WR just to let him sit the bench? We aren't going to take one early, and if we take one late, he won't be a contributor right now. We need to draft some players that can help us now. With Owens, Roy Williams, Crayton, Austin, and Hurd (who may or may not stick with the team), and Stanbach (also might now be with the team) we don't need another WR. Not unless we trade someone or cut Hurd/Stanbach. Even then, I still don't think we need a WR unless a very good one just drops in the draft and falls in our laps. We have much bigger needs.
