What positions do you think need to be upgraded in this years draft?

S: With Roy Williams probably gone, we're going to need a replacement.

DE: depending on what happens with Chris Canty, this might be a priority over everything else.

ILB: Zach is gone, we need depth.

OL: Holland should be an excellent back up, maybe a starter at guard. Still, we need a back up OT and a back up C with experience, draft another OT ( or two ) to develop so he can replace FLO in 2010. IMO, we should draft two linemen and sign two linemen through free agency. Get rid of every back up lineman we currently have on the roster.

QB: The back up will be addressed through the FA market, but we have room to draft a developmental guy and KEEP him ( no more releasing hoping he goes through waivers ).

We don't need to draft any: WR, TE, RB, CB or OLB, unless somebody really, really, really special falls to us.

:starspin

I think we see things EXACTLY the same. My thoughts we well.

There are only 2 positions that I would not target in the draft, TE and RB. Every other position should be targeted for increased depth based on a BPA philosophy.

Dallas needs to draft the best leader AND fottball player avaialble. forget drafting for need or best player available. That usually means most talented; we have too much of that; to many great athletes. waht we need are leaders and ballers, regardless of position.

Possible upgrades:

1) Draft best possible Free Safety prospect
2) Draft ILB with HEART
3)Draft QB with potential to eventually compete for the starting job
4) Bulky NT via Free Agency
5) Help at Guard via Free Agency
6) Release Ratman Jones

what won't happen but should.

6) Cut both Roy Williamses and release Terrell Owens,

OL - Any position. I don't think anyone's job should be safe on the line. I would like to move to more of an smaller and agile group.

ILB - Is there any way we can get some ILBs with some speed in here? Some who can cover?

FS - I'm not a huge fan of Hamlin in the SS role since he has issues tackling, but it'd be nice to have a true FS for once.

DL - Some NT depth and some DE depth. I think we'll end up letting Spears and Canty walk. Ratliff needs someone to let him take a breather occasionally.

QB - Get a guy with good physical tools to just sit on the bench and watch for a while. I mean, Romo is almost 30. Where are we going to be 4 years from now? Who the hell knows. Might as well start developing a guy who could eventually compete.

Agreed. It wasn't just proctor stinking it up out there the last month, Gurode, Flo, and Davis were all playing like crap too.

Agreed about ILB too. James is a major liability out there. When average (AT BEST) TEs like Spaeth (however you spell it) are beating your arse up and down the field, then you KNOW you suck in coverage (James is who I'm referring to here. I actually think Zach was solid in coverage).

Resigning hamling was a mistake. He's nothign special. What I would give to have an "Ed Reed" Type back there. Someone who can anticipate a QB rushing a throw - due to a certain Demarcus Ware breathing down his neck - and actually get 7 or so INTs per season...

I'd love to get a behemoth (sp?) NG who can clog the middle and allow us to move Ratliff to DE. As a NG he wreaked havoc on QBs. Imagine him lining up next to Ware? He'd be getting single blocked every time or else teams would have to devote TWO men to help out on that side vs 2 NON blitzing players. Now imagine that... then us blitzing from the other side. Ratliff at NG is pretty good (very good vs the pass). Ratliff at DE (next to Ware) would be catastrophic for opposing QBs.

As far as QB goes, I'd bring back Bartel (he was developing decently) next year unless a really good QB is available in the draft. Plus, I'd bring in a veteran QB with some skill (if available). We could have had Leftwich. He agreed to back up Big Ben and played well for them when they needed him to. He would have been 10000X better then Brad Johnson or Brooks Bollinger.

1. Center-firm believer that QB and Center are the two most important positions on the field. A line is only as good as it's anchor.
2. Tackle-Flo needs to be replaced
3. Ilb-bye zach
4. QB-should be drafted every year, develop a great backup, trade what you don't need.
5. Safety-really, do we need to say more?

If we had an Ed Reed type safety i'd chase a parked car and put it up on here for every one to laugh along with me. one can only wish tho

In no particular order: Inside LB; one or two safetys; true nose tackle; guard and tackle; backup QB; DE if we lose Canty and/or Spears. Why does everyone keep saying WR. We don't need any receivers right now. Why draft a WR just to let him sit the bench? We aren't going to take one early, and if we take one late, he won't be a contributor right now. We need to draft some players that can help us now. With Owens, Roy Williams, Crayton, Austin, and Hurd (who may or may not stick with the team), and Stanbach (also might now be with the team) we don't need another WR. Not unless we trade someone or cut Hurd/Stanbach. Even then, I still don't think we need a WR unless a very good one just drops in the draft and falls in our laps. We have much bigger needs.
The reason to draft a wide reciever is if owens gets cut.

I'd never ever look to draft a player as a backup.

I'd look at the "needs" of the team after FA.

Saying that, I wanna big NASTY NT. :)

Teams that do not make the playoffs should go BPA, first round pick or not! if that player is a WR the Cowboys can use a WR who can be a vertical threat and someone who can move the chains...

BIG NT!

Gotta stuff the run at all costs and make teams throw, cuz 59 sacks don't mean jack without making the playoffs. Raji is smaller than Brace, but nastier when he plays. However, that was in college and Brace could turn out to be the better pro. The other guys have the best potential to plat the NT position IMO.

My top 5...

1. B.J. Raji - 6-1 323 Boston College...prolly won't be there at #52
2. Ron Brace - 6-3 325 Boston College....will be there with our pick IMO
3. Dorell Scott - 6-4 320 Clemson...3rd round?
4. Ra'Shon Harris - 6-4 325 Oregon...2nd day
5. Antonio Dixon - 6-3 328 Miami...2nd day

ILB

I think Burnett could prolly take over inside, but he's kinda injury prone as we all know. Carpenter is simply a role player now and a 1st round bust as far as I'm concerned. We need a guy inside that loves to hit and makes runners pay who get past the LOS.

My choice...

Tyrone McKenzie - 6-2 235 South Florida...100+ tackles in each of the past 3years, so you know he loves to hit! He's got good speed to chase runners down and has played against excellent competition in the SEC. In fact, I'd take him over Brace at #52 or trade down a few spots and still get him. :)

SS

Roy will be back for sure, but we need to groom his replacement for 2010. Possibly the 2nd half of 2009, if Roy doesn't play up to par again. Once again, a guy that loves to hit and makes tackles eveywhere. Can cover a lot of ground and can hold his own against TE's over the middle.

My choice...

Courtney Greene - 6-2 210 Rutgers...a solid prospect with tons of tackles and good speed. Is quick enough to play FS, but is better suited for SS with his penchant to make tackles everywhere.

That matches what I think as well. Good job for thinking like me. :D

I would just add a big NT as Arch Stanton & Silverstar pointed out.

I'm still pissed we didn't get Wilfork.
