Lee and Carter being injured is a big reason we were so bad. They have missed time every season they have played. RB is the most injury-risk intensive position on the field.

Lee and Carter were still very good picks, even adjusting for their respective injuries. And it's awfully hard to relate whether or not their injuries in a Cowboys uniform had anything to do with their injury status at the time we picked them.

RBs do risk injuries, but that's going to be the case with any RB we draft. If you're taking one injured, you do need to discount whatever level you'd ordinarily pick him at to offset the injury status, but that doesn't mean he won't be a good value or a great value at the right spot.

And I know that there probably is such a thing as a player being prone to injuries. Especially categories of injuries like concussions where one makes you more likely to get another the next time out. But with our LBs, I'm not necessarily convinced that the physical setbacks they've had correlate to either player being more likely to get hurt again in the future. The game's just so violent and injuries so common and careers so short on average that it's difficult to measure.

But, me, if the injury causes the player to drop below where he should have gone otherwise, and it's not chronic (in Lattimore's case it might actually be, so he's not the best example), and if it's at a position where we have some coverage, I'm just as happy to take the shot as I would be on a lesser player who happened to be healthy. The healthy guys don't help you much if they're not as good as the guys you could get, otherwise.

Kind of sucks that Murray is always hurt because I want Lattimore badly.

Worst case scenario: draft Lattimore and let him rehab BUT Murray gets injured again. =(

I think if we snag lattimore we need to get a FA as number 2

What chronic knee condition does Lattimore have?

Perhaps they're not chronic. But right ACL/PCL/LCL last year, on top of the left ACL the year before...yuck. Usually, these things come along with meniscal damage of some sort that can be problematic down the road, right? At least, that's the case with mine, where I have bone-on-bone in places if I turn my knee at an awkward angle.

Not to mention that major knee injuries will spawn secondary issues/injuries.

Lattimore will never be a "Special" RB in the NFL.

The reports are no nerve damage (not uncommon in a dislocation) or cartilage damage either. He doesn't have any instability issues either. So he has no chronic condition of the knee that I'm aware of.

He just has to build up his muscles again and work on his range of motion. I'm not minimizing the injury which is difficult to look at actually (in real life especially) but if he doesn't have any of the above then he should be ok. Whether or not he makes it back this year I can't say for sure as I have no direct connections to his doctors. But what I'm hearing (if its trustworthy) is all good.

Years ago we didn't have tendons from cadavers or made from our own tissue nor the techniques we have today from inserting those in bone where they'll stay. If the ligaments were too far gone at the time of repair you got a knee like Sayers had.

Edit: should read In the past if the ligaments....

Fair enough. I defer to your info and expertise. That's good news, then. There's a lot to like about Lattimore as a player, and reports are his recovery is coming along great.

We'll see. There are no guarantees.

I think we have had enough problems with injury prone running backs the last few years. I say we don't add to the problem by drafting yet another guy that has had injurie(S) in his college career. A reminder that it is not just this past injury that he has had.

4th for sure. If we had a late 3rd in a trade some how I might be persuaded to use that.
