Guess I would probably pull the trigger at 6 but more than likely will have to pass on this kid. Tired of taking chances with injured players, Dallas already have or had enough of those in the past..

He is one heckuva player. Best linebacker in this draft before the injury. I don't believe the nerve damage is a big deal at all. Lots of people report it after ACL surgery. I even had it myself. Took about 8 months to go away, but it didn't affect performance of my knee whatsoever. It was just numb in certain areas.

Our medical staff includes the doctor who performed the surgery.

And who's one of the best knee repairing surgeons in the country.

Reality is if his knee and nerve tests show improvement, some good team will take a flier on him in the 2nd round possibly. I could see someone like Carolina or Denver just taking a flier on him at the end of the 2nd round because they can afford to.

Yep. If it checks out, he'll probably be gone in the 2nd. A red shirt year isn't a big deal when he looks like he can play 10+ years.

I can see Carolina taking Dodd in the late first, then Smith in the second. That would NOT be cool.

If we can trade back with Tennessee and get their two extra 2nd round picks they acquired from the Rams, I'd be all for spending one of them on Smith. Get the best DT available, Karl Joseph, and Jaylon Smith in the 2nd. Not a bad haul.

I don't know how anyone can say with much confidence right now. Luckily we'll have more info on his injury soon.

If the doctors feel he's likely to get back to 100% and will only miss a season, I'd be stoked to grab him with the 34. If there's only a 50/50 chance that he gets to 90%, I would use our later 4th round pick on him.

The kid is a special, special player, IMO. If he ever gets back to 100%, I think he's a game changer and an all-pro.

Good thing we have a crap ton of comp picks.

Honestly, I figured this was going to be the outcome anyway for him. I think any team drafting him was likely going to stash him for a year as a precaution and allow him to spend an entire year under that team's S&C and training programs. IMO, if I were a team that took him and he was say cleared by doctors to play halfway through the 2016 season, I'd probably still think about holding him out.

Hey, if they think that he'll be recovered for the 2017 season, that's a good thing. Tearing the ACL/LCL by itself, independent of nerve damage, probably eliminated him from playing this year. If the nerve is showing that it's recovering, then he has a chance of being selected in the fourth, or so.

He'll also be able to collect on the $5M policy he took out for insurance.

Broadus has said more than once that he's done for good. Fwiw.

I'd use a 4th on him. 4th rounders won't play this year anyway. Might as well try get a star that can possibly play next year.

If no one has bitten by 6 you gotta think about it. But I'd think if he doesn't go earlier, his agent will get the word out to hat he won't sign so he can either go onto the '17 pool or choose where he signs

Sadly for Dallas that has proven to be true in the past but it doesn't have to be. If we draft the right 4th rounders, they can play. Minnesota got some great contributions from their 5th rd pick Steffon Diggs. I think their 4th round pick is their starting OT. TJ Clemmings. There were several 4th rd running backs that had significant playing time.

Perkins and Ridgeway are the 4th rounders I have been mocking to Dallas. I think they both could contribute.

6th and no earlier. Reminds me of the Marcus Lattimore situation. If he was healthy he was heck a of a player.
