What I believe did the Eagles in was the trenches the last few games. Beginning with their beatdown of the Cowboys on Thanksgiving.

While the Eagles handily beat the Cowboys on Thanksgiving, the Cowboys are tough and extremely physical in the trenches. Playing an extremely physical team takes it's toll on you. The Eagles then after playing the Cowboys had to play the Seahawks who are another extremely physical team who is playing well. At that point, it's straight math. The Eagles took punishment in back to back physical games only to come right back and face the Cowboys again. This time, it wasn't the Cowboys after three days rest. It was the Cowboys after 10 days rest.

Three straight games against very physical teams will take a massive toll on you. The Eagles were beaten up and then they had to walk into the Commanders which of whom they should have beaten handily. ....they didn't. They fell to the Commanders and because of that, they pretty much lost any shot at the division. The Cowboys beating the Colts was the final nail in their playoff coffin.

If you look back. The Cowboys played Seattle early in the year. The Seahawks didn't start the season all that well. I believe part of that was the physical toll playing the Cowboys took early in the season. They loss to the Rams after the Cowboys then barely beat the Panthers. After that, they physical reset and began a return to form. They are now one of the stronger teams in the NFL and they play the same brand of football as they did last year and as the Cowboys are playing this year. Physical smash-mouth football.

The Eagles could and probably should have won the division, but that stretch of three games against the Cowboys, Seahawks, and then Cowboys again doomed them.

So they should have won the division except for the fact that they weren't tough enough? Yeah, I can live with that. LOL. But I will add that they could have had three weeks to prepare for the Cowboys, they weren't beating us with a healthy Romo. The Thanksgiving loss was so much more about us than it was about them. They didn't win that game, we lost it. We lost it because Romo could hardly move, that simple.

Or, more simply, Sanchez is not a good QB

First off, I didn't say they lost because they weren't tough enough. If the Cowboys, Seattle, etc had to face three brutal teams in three straight weeks, we would have been in bad shape too.

Second, the Thanksgiving day loss, was two fold. We sucked and they are a good team. We got our *** kicked and deserved it. Notice when the Cowboys were healthy with 10 days rest, we won, but it wasn't some type of blowout. The Eagles are a good team and telling yourself anything else is just lying to yourself to make you feel better.

The Eagles are a good team. (even with a ****ty QB) They're very different type of team than the Cowboys, they are very close to the same quality of team. They just do it differently than the Cowboys / Seattle does. Though, I still believe this "super fast offense" while can be a positive in some situations, it can also be a quick death. Especially when it comes to "playoff football" which is very much defensive oriented. They will just expose their defense if they don't keep them off the field enough. Especially when their offense starts sputtering in a defensive game.

Good points.

I'll add that I think just as big, maybe more so, was the fact that Sanchez came back to playing like you expect Sanchez to play and also their defense just absolutely fell apart, and wore down, and died due to being on the field so much because Chip Kelly has absolutely no respect, or understanding, of the importance of time of possession in football.

I think what most did them in was their poor performance against the Seahawks. There was a great differential of the amount of plays the Eagles ran versus the Seahawks. Then they had the Cowboys who had a little extra time to prepare for them and got off to a great start and the Eagles again had far fewer plays than the Cowboys. IIRC, the Eagles ran 90 plays to the Seahawks/Cowboys 150 plays. Then they go on the road, always difficult to do in December and were crapped out against Washington. It also doesn't help that their kicker missed 2 FG's.

Chip Kelly has never claimed he was a genius. He's gone out of his way to say that he isn't and he's not doing anything that hasn't been done before. But, there are some issues that the hurry up, no huddle offense creates. Especially when you have an inaccurate QB like Sanchez. 3 and outs are bad for any team, regardless of their pace. But the Eagles simply can't afford many 'outs'...whether it is 3 and out, 4 and out, 5 and out, etc.

The other part is that in the NFL, you can get professional athletes to communicate quickly together to set up a blitz against the rather pedestrian Eagles offensive design. That means free shots at the QB. In college, you're not likely to be able to do that or do it as well.

I think time of possession is HUGE. The Eagles run such a hurry-up offense that if they don't score, they put their defense back out on the field. And then when their opponents score, their offense is, again, in hurry-up mode. But that catches up to you after awhile. I didn't panic when the Eagles went ahead of the Cowboys 24-21 because I knew that that defense had been on the field for too long and at some point, it would start to show. And the Cowboys methodically moved down the field and scored. And then the Eagles were back on the field trying to counter and making mistakes.

The Eagles are the opposite of the Cowboys. The Cowboys defense isn't great, but it benefits from an offense that consumes time of possession and SCORES! This is important. A team has to score when it has time of possession. Doing so helps the defense rest, gives them more energy and forces the opposing offense into being one-dimensional.

When you run a play every 22 seconds and you do 3 and out you only take 88 seconds off the clock, that is not a lot of time to get your wind back if you are a defensive player

Nice analysis. Have taken to watching the Eagles D Lineman who are their strength, and in our game and Skins you could see them gasping early in the game. Couple that with no pressure equals one on one with their DB's and it's a whole new game...

What is miraculous to me is that Dallas went from a soft finesse team to a physical smashmouth team in one offseason.

Demarco Murray went from a mediocre back to the NFL rushing leader as well.

Murray has been good, but he's injury prone. His first two seasons the o-line was garbage. He would have to dance his way out of the backfield just to net positive yardage. Last year, you saw what he could be, but Dallas wouldn't run the ball for whatever reason.

Couldn't simply more cardio training prevent a defense from getting winded?

You can't possibly train to be prepared for something like that without being so worn down that you can't perform at a high level anyways.

You seem to be talking an awful lot about a team that is no longer playing for anything this year. Giving them a lot of props and defending them too. Why are you still so focused on the Eagles? You do realize the Cowboys just won the division, don't you? To say we got our ***** kicked (and deserved it) without acknowledging that Romo could barely move because of the short turnaround and then saying they are the very close to the same quality of team, despite the fact that we beat them very convincingly in their place sure makes you sound like an closet Eagles fan, or an Eagles apologist at the very least. The Eagles are not a very good team -- they had the playoffs in their sights and promptly lost three games in a row, two of them at home. Meanwhile, we've won three in a row, including two on the road.

Oh, and why did you say our victory "wasn't some type of blowout" despite the fact that we beat them by more than the Seahawks beat them the week before, and pretty much everyone thinks the Seahawks crushed them? Why is that?

P.S. I feel just fine, thank you.

Probably help some, but at this point in the season I think the physical beating these guys take, plus the effort they exert on each play offsets any late season conditioning they could throw in.

Also from what I recall Kelly has instituted some type of flexibility/cardio off season/training camp program to help improve their overall durability/flexibility/ conditioning.
