Yesterday, all I read on this forum is Phillips is the next coach:

"It makes perfect sense to fix the defense and let Jason Garrett work with the offense and Sparano."

"Dumbest move JJ has ever made."

I'm out of town one day...I get back and all I read is that Norv is the next HC, though we're interviewing other guys even today:

"It makes perfect sense to tutor Jason Garrett."

"It's the dumbest move JJ has ever made."

I swear I've never seen such knee jerk pansies...lol...no real insult intended, fellas...just my reaction to what I'm seeing. I don't even see a single article that actually reports it...just media guys speculating.

I'm okay with Norv or Phillips....both bring something to the table. What I want to know is why some guys think Rivera is the saviour when he's simply running the defense that Lovie Smith designed and using the players Lovie put together...it's not like he's running the defense for an offensive minded HC. I also don't understand why guys would want a HC whose success is with the 4-3...do you want to spend the offseason, FA and the draft, making the few changes necessary? It wouldn't be a total overhaul, but changes would need to be made. We don't have a proven Tackle on the team right now besides Ferguson, and he's not going to get any pass rush for you.

I would personally go with Phillips, but if the idea that it was Parcells holding the defense back is true, then I'm sure some of the other guys can run the defense this year...if Jason Garrett isn't quite ready yet, or not proven enough for JJ, then Norv makes sense.

But I don't understand how the entire board swings totally one way or the other, day to day, on basically nothing.

Is there an actual article with anyone quoted that I'm missing?

The Norv craze today started from JJT on the radio saying that he thought the Norv deal was basically "done".

But Norv, Wade, whatever..it doesnt matter.. all that boils down to is suggesting Wade can help the defense or Norv can help Garrett/Romo.. yada yada depending on how the wind is blowing.

As for bringing in like Rivera it's because the hope there would be that he would be one of those special leaders destined for big things as an HC. Unlike the 2 aforementioned guys who have already had thier shots and proven nothing of the sort.

Oh sure..if you put a stacked team around them you might get it done regardless.. but not because of anything special they brought to the table in a HC capacity.

They both suck and will further make us the butt of jokes from the fans of the rest of the league and the media: Welcome back "Jerry's Kids" blah, blah, blah.

:hammer:

You here all the time about how this team has no heart and should not give up at the first sign of resistance ......

I wish most of these "fans" would take the same advice.

The whole thing is underwhelming to me.

Rex ryan and ron rivera are more interesting because it would be a first time gig and they would be highly motivated.

However I have this stipulation, I would only want rex ryan if he came with ozzie newsome and the ravens scouts who did an incredible job of bringing in players who fit and succeed.....

So is rex ryans defense? Or is it Ozzie newsomes outstanding drafting?

He is buddy ryan's son, which means buddy ryan will be on my tv doing interviews and on my radio all the time. So for selfish reasons I hope he never comes here. I hate buddy ryan.

Second. Ron Rivera. Same deal. Is it lovie smith or rivera running that defense. Ron rivera has worked and played for some very good coaches in his career. Seeing that he was with andy reid on the ground floor in Philly and stayed until 03 he must have got a pretty good lesson from jim johnson and would know the eagles very well. At the same time again, its hard to determine anything when you have a guy as good as jim johnson, so guessing on what effect the assitants had as a fan is impossible.

Sometimes assitants stand out and can not be ignored, I dont get that feeling from either of these guys. Until you look closer at Ron Rivera.

I will say this though, If norv isnt hired sunday night or Monday afternoon Then I would imagine we are hiring Ron Rivera.

Here is my thought as to why. Ever listen to Parcells talk about the eagles? For 4 years he has been complimenting Jim Johnson like crazy, really admires his teams play and results. Well Parcells is still in house and interviewing people to help jerry. Rivera was there for 4 years with the eagles from 99-03.
RIvera was a linebacker for the bears from 84-92. So he played under ryan and ditka. His teammate Jeff fisher with the bears has proved to be a strong defensive mind and overall outstanding coach. Afterall fisher was the youngest defensive coordinator in nfl history in 1988.

Anyway, when I connect the dots in my head They all lead to the best hire being...Ron Rivera.

He has played with or coached with Mike singletary, jeff fisher, mike ditka, buddy ryan, jim johnson, Andy Reid.

He has played in the 46 pressure defense. He now coaches the "Tampa cover 2" defense. That means that he must be a sharp defensive mind. He must be able to understand and implement the changing fronts to disrupt and confuse fronts. He is well schooled.

He will get Parcells seal of approval because of his ties to Ryan, Ditka and johnson. He has proved himself as a coordinator. THe teams he has been associated with have always won.

SO again in a nutshell. The smartest and best hire for this franchise is
RON RIVERA

He is old school Defense. He will get the Parcells seal of approval.

One more clue that has been left to us the fans and the media, to which the media are missing. Jerry's comments to norm about Roy Williams.

Remember? "We need to get Roy involved at the line of Scrimmage"

That is the essence of the 46. Well, we cant play that front all the time, it is not a 3 step drop pass stopping defense. However with the mind of Ron Rivera, we can mix that front at any time.

Well who else does this you ask? Rex ryan. They have 3-4 personnell and play mutliple fronts.

Ron Riveras defense can do the same. We could stay 3-4, inadverntly mix in the 4-3 and the 46. We have the personnel.

Sorry to Ramble. This is just what I believe.

Jerry should hire Ron Rivera monday afternoon after the super bowl. Allow him to hire his own defensive assistants...howbout defensive coordinator Mike Singletary, after all they were teammates and guess what he knows the 34, Tampa 2 and the 46. Then turnover the offense to Jason Garret and Tony sporano.

That is my deal. Norv is a great coordinator and so is phillips. Rivera is a well schooled Head Coach in the making. Allowing him to walk would be crazy. It is not the right time for turner, phillips or any other retread.

Get Aggressive Jerrry, Be cocky smart not Cocky Stupid. Losers live in the past.

He has a point.

I ran into an old friend today and even he was excited to hear the news about Turner being named the frontrunner. I prompted asked this imbecile who he was and what had he done with my friend.

What you are witnessing is the second stage of acceptance.

Once the losses start piling up, there will be GRON or GROT all over this place.
