What to do at nose tackle?

With the draft approaching I'm begging to think more and more that our first pick will be a nose tackle, or atleast should be. I'm not comfortablable going into the season with just Ferguson and Thomas Johnson. For starters, I don't think Thomas Johnson is ready to contribute, and second I think Ferguson is kinda small at 310 to be playing every snap at NT. I think he'll be best with another guy to rotate with. I think Ngata is the best NT available but won't be there at #18.

I think he has little chance of going before the 8th pick, so If someone were to fall to #8 and Buffalo were to pick him instead I'd be willing to trade up. No one until cleveland would probably give him a look, and I believe that they'll be looking for edge players. If that fails I'd be willing to trade down and draft Gabe Watson. I know a lot of you guys don't like him, but I think with the right motivation he could be a great NT. A lot of these DT who are 15lbs+ are accused of being lazy, but when they get to the league play better. And Trading down will allow us to possibly pick up a late 2nd/early 3rd so we can adress FS and any other needs.

Ferguson isn't too small to play NT. I think you go with what you have there next season. Give "Pepper" a chance to get some snaps and develop. You're not going to draft anybody that makes a big impact, NT/DT are positions that take years to develop usually.

i'm not sure yoy want to spend a top 20 pick on a nt. they are not impact players, and some of the best ones come later,n ot to mention there are a couple out the in f.a who would be fine

that's funny Fergi is too small to play NT. and he won't be playing every snap. we'll sign a cheap rotation guy and/or draft a late round NT. and don't forget Thomas Johnson - he showed some nice game late last year

I wonder if Thomas Johnson is bulking up this year, or Radcliff. Both played a combo of NT and DE ?

Valid concern -

go to the draft forum as there have been extensive NT talks.

Ngata/Watson are our best options in 1st. OShinowo, Fafita are day 2 prospects at NT.

FA has dried up at 3-4 NT with Washington, Kemeteau off market.

Ratliff showed a nice motor too.

I think part of the decesion to let Glover go was fueled by what Bill saw in him and Pepper.

I wouldn't mind a cheap vet brought in for insurance, but I'm not that worried about the position.

I said he's too small to play an entire game at NT. As of now we have no depth, and I'd rather get someone with a lot of upside to rotate with him b/c Ferguson is like 32 or 33.

doubt Glover had anything to do with Johnson. Glover was too small for NT. He did well early and wore down -- that actually has been his story for several years now.

I think we are underestimating BP's opinion of Thomas Johnson and for that matter Rob Pettiti.

The proof is in the pudding. We have made no effort to sign a RT and no effort for the guy from Baltimore at NT

I also think we need more depth behind Ferguson & Johnson, but doubt we use first day pick on NT given our often-repeated other needs. We probably go after 1 on 2nd day and also probably has Ireland scouting the country looking for another UFA like Johnson.

Hey guys, I'm knew to Cowboyszone, was on DC united until I found this much larger forum. Back in the early FA talk, like back in February, I heard Grady Jackson the NT from Green Bay would be on the market this free agency. He is bigger than Fergusson, does anyone know if he is in fact available? I'm not comfortable with Ratliff or Johnson as our rotating nose tackles. Fergusson is a good relief guy, but is undersized to be starting at NT in the 3-4.

I have spent much time on the subject and the draft does have some help for us for the 3-4 NT's and a lot of teams that run the 3-4 that scooped up NT's may not draft one at least not very high.

Roy, in your draft research do you find that if we wait till a later round we could draft a quality NT? Or do we need to jump on one in round 1?
