Today painfully showed that we need to make lots of improvements defensively. However there are a good amount of bright spots, and alot of our improvment could come in house. Here are a few things defensively that are looking up in 2017
Jaylon Smith: The belief is he should be ready by OTA's. If Jaylon can play near a level expected of him, that gives a catalytic player at the LB position
Sean Lee: Speaking of catalytic players at the LB position, Sean Lee has only missed one game due to injury since moving to WILL. He was solid in 2015, but this year he really took tonthe position and played it at a level he had played MLB at.
Progression from Maleik Collins: Collins turned a rather unexpectedly productive rookie season, even from his fans. This player has a very good chance to become a Geno Atkins type presence at the 3 Tech, and could be a guy who gets us 7 to 10 sacks worth of critical intirior pressure next year.
Progression from Anthony Brown: I dont know if Brown is a top CB, but I do know Brown is a starting caliber CB in the NFL. He played much more seasoned then anyone could expected and still has lots of upside.
Progression from Byron Jones: I know we are all a little salty on him right now, but he had a very solid season. Another year at FS and an improved pass rush may get the ball in his hands more. Even withouy being a playmaker, he has been an asset to the defense.
Progression from David Irving: Where will he play? Who knows. But this is a player that should become a major force in 2017. A guy that has the ability to just take over a game. He just needs to play at a high level more consistently. I think he can surprise some people and be an RDE
