Denver Broncos 21, Seattle Seahawks 16

1. The Broncos lost Montee Ball to an emergency appendectomy this week. On Thursday, C.J. Anderson was taken out of action by a concussion. On the bright side, undrafted rookie Juwan Thompson built on his strong start to training camp with a nice performance, rushing for 59 yards on just six carries.

2. DeMarcus Ware offered an immediage glimpse of his special abilities, disrupting Seattle's opening rushing attempt for no gain, then sacking Russell Wilson two plays later. A healthy and motivated Ware is trouble for the AFC.

3. This might have been a matchup of the NFL's two best teams, but this was not a well-played affair. The teams combined for 25 penalties for 226 yards. Think Pete Carroll and John Fox will have something to say about that?

4. Terrelle Pryor threw a late interception in the end zone that sealed Seattle's fate, but he had an overall positive day that should help him stick on the 53-man roster. You expect to see Pryor make plays with his legs -- which he did -- but the quarterback also looked comfortable in the pocket, completing several throws into tight spaces.

San Diego Chargers 27, Dallas Cowboys 7

1. Philip Rivers picked up right where he left off. We saw the Chargers quarterback wisely adjust calls pre-snap, go through his progressions and fire the ball through windows. Danny Woodhead remains a big part of the passing game and multiple targets for Ladarius Green have us feeling good about our Making the Leap candidate.

2. Dallas sat DeMarco Murray, giving Joseph Randle a chance to go to work. The second-year back lashed San Diego for 50 yards off 13 carries. The real story here is a promising Cowboys line that controlled the trenches and kept defenders out of the backfield.

3. Brandon Weeden still stares down his throws, but Tony Romo's backup was far from a disaster in his Cowboys debut. After an ugly red-zone interception was wiped out by a Chargers holding penalty, Weeds fought back to cap an 11-play, 80-yard drive with beautiful touchdown pass to tight end James Hanna.

4. The Cowboys defense hit the scene as promised: Gassed, adrift and struggling to cover wide-open spaces. Rivers zapped Dallas early with an up-tempo offense and San Diego's deep cast of runners took it from there.

5. Someone to watch: Undrafted Chargers back Branden Oliver out of Buffalo. He's enjoyed a strong camp and used his speed to pile up 64 yards and a touchdown on just seven carries in his first NFL appearance.

if romo play well this team wins six or seven games if he don't two or three

In the NFL, I'd say few teams have much of a shot at winning if their starting QB does not play well. It is really hard in today's NFL with parity and the salary cap and free agency to mask bad QB play. That's why the QBs are paid so much.

It is hard to run the ball if your QB is not playing well. It is hard for the defense to not get gassed if your QB is going 3-and-out. It is hard for the defense to play from behind. And if the QB is playing bad, it makes the defense take more risks. It is a QB-driven league.

Yep, the defense that started one starting safety and held out a slew of others got beaten by most of the Chargers starting offense. Guess he forgot to mention that part.

Oh I hope he does well and gets a rink! I just don't expect him to stay healthy which is why the Cowboys cut him loose. Mainly I just wish he could have stayed and stayed healthy as a Cowboy.

He may not stay healthy but the Cowboys cut him because of the cap.

"4. Colt McCoy lives! His 8-for-9, 102-yard effort should help earn a roster spot."

Just to keep preseason into perspective.
Good for Colt though.

Watch Ware stay healthy all year and have a great year. It would be just our luck.

It's fine if he does.

For his age, the amount of money he got, and where our team is at I think we 100% made the right move.

I agree I just hate seeing him in another uniform. But that's the NFL.

Kind of funny that Rookie Garappollo already looked better than Ryan Mallett.

bet the teams that might have been thinking about trading for him are relieved

a lot of people are wary of taking a Brady backup after what happened with Cassel.

I learned that B.W. Webb needs to be cut. He avoids tackles like the plague.

The idea that Ware was not motivated in the past is preposterous. He played through stuff that would have had most on the bench

I feel more comfortable about Weeden now if it comes down to him seeing some starts. Although, I am not sure if I can handle TWO gingers on the team!
