What will it take for Dez to overtake Megatron?

I think Dez has all of the tools. He's big, he's strong, he's physical, he's fast, and he is playing with a swagger that I haven't seen in him since he was dominating at OSU. Megatron is better than him right now but I believe Dez will close that gap between them starting this year.

What do you guys think Dez has to do to make his case as the best receiver in the game? To me, he can start by building on his 2nd half performance of last year. I'm excited about how dominant he is becoming.

Calvin would probably have to get hurt.

Its impossible to say that Dez is more physically gifted, though I think you could argue that he's close. And CJ plays in a pass heavy offense that features him, so he's always going to have big numbers. A Super Bowl would help Dez' case, but it would take more than 1 big year to surpass CJ. A lot more.

Dez is a once in a decade talent at WR.

Megatron is a once in a lifetime talent at WR. I don't think any WR in the history of the game has had the tools that Megatron has from a physical perspective.

Note: This is in now way meant to be a put down on Dez.

Let Dez start performing at a high level in the post season and people will say Dez > Calvin

I wouldn't. Calvin is the best WR I've seen since Moss came into the league. Just a complete freak of nature.

What will it take? Him staying healthy, that's it. Dez is going to be considered the best receiver in the game after this year, bank on it.

Agreed with everything you are saying.

With that said..

I still don't think we've seen the best Dez Bryant. I don't think we've seen the final product.

If there is a freakish play to be made the guy can make it.

If Dez's overall presence like his fire and energy plus playmaking ability start showing up in January and February there will be people who say Dez > Calvin.

I believe if we finally get over that hump people will point to Dez. Not Romo, not Garrett, not D Ware.

Meanwhile Calvin will be fighting for last place in the NFC North.

Here is the paradox. To be considered the best WR in the game he'll have to have the best (or near best) stats in the league. The paradox is this -- if he gets 205 targets (like Calvin Johnson last year) then there is something broken with the Cowboy's offense.

Megatron is a supreme talent who happens to be in the perfect situation to pump up his stats.

perry has a point. if dez has megatron numbers then thats not really good for the team. but to surppase megatron is simple, put up numbers all year like he did the 2nd half of last year and he will have better numbers than johnson. de'z second half numbers were unbelievable last year

You know, it takes more than size and straight line speed to be the best receiver in the game. Route running, body control, hands, strength, endurance, desire, etc. all come into play. To simply name Megatron the best because of these two characteristics is asinine. Otherwise, Plaxico Burress and Roy Williams would be considered two of the best to play the game. Are they on anybody's all time best list? Please. Are you actually going to support Moss's idiotic remarks that he is the best to ever play, ahead of Jerry Rice? Is Calvin Johnson bigger and faster in a straight line? Yes. But I believe Dez has him in most other categories and is the more dangerous receiver overall.

Calvin is great I would say the best but Det went 3-13, I just need Dez to help this team win games he does not have to be better than Calvin to do that.

Gonna have to agree with this and I love Dez. I hate to say this too but Calvin has his head screwed on right.. all the time.

He needs to take over games. Be that guy who can't be stopped. Be the guy that dictates what the defense is going to do. Then he will be considered the best WR.

The thing is you guys are just basing it on physical ability.

Physical ability does not judge who is the best at what they do in the NFL. It's just 1 tool for getting to that status.

Thanks for the lesson.

In terms of all around skill set, Calvin Johnson is the best WR in the game and I don't think that changes until he declines.
