I was having a conversation with a friend today about how rarely trades happen in today's NFL. He posed an interesting question.

As a purely hypothetical question, what would it take for the Cowboy's to trade_______?

Dak
Zeek
Dez
Smith
Frederick
Martin
Etc.

IMHO,you never trade franchise players. Why would you. Those you listed are critical.
to our main source of scoring, plus they are the best. The value has to be so high
as to make the transaction unfeasible for the other team.

I don't disagree, but if Cleveland offered their next 2 first round picks would you consider trading any of them.

Again, this is just hypothetical

I can't think of a single reason to trade known commodities like the above-mentioned players for even multiple first-round prospects. These are not the kind of players you trade unless you get some whale-offer like the Vikings made for Herschel Walker. And that trade was made when the Cowboys franchise was in dire straits - which hardly describes their current situation.

I wouldn't do it even if we got a first or multiple firsts for every single one of them. We've hit on almost every 1st rounder for many years now. Don't see the point in trading all of them away just to see if you get lucky enough to hit on them again.

But to answer the question about what it would take... probably some 6 team trade that would land us JJ Watt, Khalil Mack, Von Miller, Antonio Brown, Leveon Bell, and Andrew Luck.

I'm not suggesting that we should. I'm simply saying what would it take to tempt the Cowboys front office.
No disrespect, but this could be a Super Bowl caliber team. The one real tradable commodity is because of the evolution of the new QB. Making that a successful trade could set us up for years.

Why would I take a hypothetical question disrespectfully? If San Fran offered this years 1st and 2nd round picks along with next years 1st rounder, would you consider trading Smith or Zeek?

Why trade Super Bowl commodities? This is the bookmark of NFL teams.

Oh I know its for discussion and that was my part in the discussion. As you know you don't know if a player in the draft can play
at the NFL level until their playing. The old axiom 'bird in the hand"

I was thinking about this a few weeks ago when we lost to the Gnats. Just the notion of trading Dak for both of Cleveland's 1st round picks (#1, #12) this year and just keeping Romo as the starter next year. Then, you draft another QB to groom with our pick later in the 1st round or even the 2nd round for say Pat Mahomes etc. Naturally, the Browns would have to want to make that trade and see Dak as their savior or whatever. A bold move and one that could backfire if Romo gets hurt again next year. However, having 3 first round picks is like winning the lottery so to speak. I can imagine it will be a complete **** storm on Jerry's head for making that trade by the media, but wow...imagine drafting Myles Garrett or Jonathan Allen and then Rueben Foster or Jabril Peppers at #12. :omg:

I feel a little dirty now.
