I think at this point, since the two QB's are gone there are three scenarios where I would be really happy with concerning the First pick.

What would make me happy.

1. Zeke - if he is the pick I am happy. I think he is in a different class at RB and I think he is the BPA and if we can't have a dominant D...we better have a great Offense and if we have Zeke in there with the other members staying healthy (healthy is a big if anymore) I think his can be a killer offense. A few years ago Jerry talked about players that you might move up for or take even though you normally are looking at other players...He called them WOW players IIRC. To me, this is a WOW pick.

2. Trade down a few spots, get some extra second round pick(s). I think down to 15 would be the max and probably net us 2 extra 2nd round picks. Hopefully you would have a number of player still there that you like like Paxton (maybe not), Rankins, Spence, Doctson/Treadwell/Coleman, Lawson. Either way there should be at least one or two players there that would be worth taking and you could also wind up with 3 2nd round picks or may 2 second and 2 3rd round picks to go with it.

3. Paxton - I know most don't rate him this high, however I think he will be over drafted like most QBs and with the other two already off the board he might not be there if we trade down even a few spots. If you think he is future franchise QB...Take him and be done with it.

What I can live with

Bosa - I know people are down on him and he is not really who I would like but I think he can be a good player and can help this line. Although he might not get the number of sacks for the DE position what will make the people happy who only look at the sack stats...I do think he can help open up things for other players, I do think other teams will have to account for him and I also think he might be a force on the inside as a 3 on occasion or in stunting.

Ramsey - Another player some people are not high about. Seems the cowboys want to play him at CB but most people think he is best at S. I am not sure he could not play CB. I think he has the natural ability to do so but I think, like most, that his natural position is Safety and I would think that Jones with Ramsey could be the best Safety combo we have had since Woody and Williams (when williams was good).

Tunsil - I think it silly to use another pick on the Online right now when we have three first round Olineman on the roster and price wise in the future I would add Collins to make it four. The old saying of you can't have steak at every position rings true. Although I guess one could argue what I said earlier that if you are not going to have a dominant D...you better have a great offense. And hard to deny that just a week or so ago everyone had him pegged as the #1 overall player in the draft.

What I would not want

Only seems to be one other player left that has been tied to us as a possible pick.

Buckner - Just don't want buckner. IIRC he has said they talked to him about playing the 3 tech and maybe that is where he would best be served but frankly I think there are better 3 techs in this draft that are already used to the position. He could also play the 1 tech but I think we have that covered or could get better than him. What I DON'T see him as is a 4-3 DE.

I could name other players that I would not want at four but I am just using the players that have been tied to us with the idea of some possibility of being taken at 4.

======

I have to keep in mind, even if I do complain, is to keep an open mind as to what a player may wind up being for this team vs what I think he will not be.

I have to give them a little rope when it comes to the first round pick because they have been doing a pretty good job with the first round picks although one could argue we are due for another Mo or Bobby hiccup.

Nice post. I agree with pretty much everything you said. I'm back and forth on Buckner I guess just because I'm trying to talk myself into him in case he's the pick.
He is a massive dude and hopefully has potential to add more pass rush if we take him. He has a little bit of that nasty Reggie White hump move working for him from time to time.

Good post.
I feel about Ramsey as you do Buckner, which I prefer not to either either.
Zeke first, but will be fine with Bosa. But this draft is more about the entire draft, not just who is selected in the 1st round. Rather it is Bosa then Henry or Lynch, or Elliott then Lynch or a DE.
To me, it is about getting 4 or 5 players that will help right away. With the 1st 3 picks making an impact, unless one of those is a Qb. Then that is a future impact, or hope he is.

My problem is that I want too much.

I want Bosa and Zeke and Lynch. Can you find a way to pack all three in my draft bag, please?

I could live with Bosa and Lynch or Zeke and a DE like Dodd or Ogbah, but I'd be happy but concerned if it somehow turned out to be Zeke and Lynch because we really need a DE.

We can get by at RB with McFadden/Morris. We can get by at QB as long as Romo stays healthy most of the season. But I see no hope of us getting by at DE, especially if Lawrence and Gregory are both suspended.

At this point, I'd like a smart trade down if we can get it...but not too far. An extra 2nd (or two!) would really set us up the either take them where they are or use to trade into the late 1st.

I can live (maybe even more than just live with) with Zeke, Bosa, Ramsey, Tunsil at 4.

Would not want to trade down to the end of round 1. Would not want to reach for a player we can get much later. Would not want (would actually hate) Lynch at 4. If he's there in there late 1st though....

I could live with 2,1,3 then go players.

I am just a bit wary about Ohio State players because there are so many good ones.
Makes me wonder if they are just a little less than what they see - as other teams have to look at them as a group of good and find a double team somewhere.

Zeke is in the can live with category. I just don't believe we need to use the 4th pick in a draft on a TB to have a dominating run game. Plus, I think he's a tad overrated in that people are acting ike he's an elite, only comes once in awhile talent at TB. If he came out next year, it's not even a lock he'd be the top TB taken in the 2017 draft. So on top of not thinking a TB at 4 is wise, I think his value is being overinflated because this isn't a strong draft for top flight TBs. But given the options right now, I guess I could live with it.

Lynch at 4? No way and I like the kid.

The only option that I could love right now is a trade down. That's what I really want to see happen.

I'd be disappointed with Bosa. Maybe my info is bad but, I'm not sold on him.

As a fan, keeping an open mind and extending rope to the so-called experts is the hardest thing to do...particularly when you have a habit of picking pet cats that turn out to be as good as you imagined if not better for the team that they actually ended up with him. Not tooting my own horn here, my pet cats, as a general rule, are already locks for the first round, so it's not like I'm seeing something no else is. But I have yet to see my 1st round pet cat picked up by the Cowboys.

That said, this year, I feel pretty good about my chances. The majority of the time the reason my pet cat isn't taken by the Cowboys is because he is off the board by the time they pick. This year, he should be available at 4...so here's hoping for Zeke.

Had a pet cat last year that was a late rounder and we took him (Ken Bishop)...has not lived up to what I was hoping for

I agree with this.

Zeke might not be the logical pick. He might not fill the biggest need. And the list of top-ten RB busts is daunting.

But I think this guy is a lot more like Peterson/Gurley than he is Ronnie Brown.

I would be perfectly content if they do this.
