Deep run in playoffs at least, if not 1-15 and Jerry finally realize he is a crappy GM and quit.

A fan that WANTS his team to remain mediocre rather than get better results

As opposed to a FAN who doesn't recognize that a conference crown would be a step up in Dallas after four seasons of missing the playoffs? Maybe one who doesn't understand how poor our defensive talent really is right now?

No need to back track

You said that you WANT and expect mediocrity from the cowboys in 2014 and that would put a smile on your face

These are your words

I am just making sure your confidence does not go unnoticed

You misunderstand what backtracking is.

Also, those weren't my words. You're attributing to me things I didn't say, which is not unusual for you, unfortunately.

But, yes, my original post is there for everybody to see, and, yes, I would be satisfied if this team could simply win the East right now.

8-8, that is explicitly what you said you want this team to be this year

8-8

Crystal clear

8-8

No he didn't.

Show me the part where he said he wants the team to be 8-8.

Exactly. The more wins, the better. And the nature of the thread itself obviously is asking for the minimum people would consider successful. Then again, visionary doesn't often concern himself overly much with the actual meaning of posts he disagrees with. Ready. Fire. Aim!

You'd have to admit, another 8-8...but this time winning the division and advancing to the playoffs--peaking at the right time--would fit right in with the Jason Garrett Cowboys.

9-7 and a playoff win to build on.

Thats a great goal no doubt but we did that last time we made playoffs. I think winning 2 playoff games to build on is improving. Different roster I know but this team can play with any team at any time. .... when "they" try

Factoring in the difficulty of the Cowboys' schedule this season, a winning record would likely spell success. This defense is simply too limited to realistically expect more than that, imo. If a 9-7 record or more happens to include a playoff game, so much the better. Just as the OP indicates, a playoff spot would rightfully constitute a triumph. Next year, the defense will have had the necessary time and ability to reach the necessary talent level to carry its weight without leaning too heavily on the offense. It's always good having high standards but at some point, reality must prevail. This team's defense simply bears too many questions this year.

When I look at this year's schedule, I'm not falling into a trap of current fan favorites or media darlings. I see a schedule that has some pretty tough games to collide heads with. But overall, I see teams that this team of Cowboys can beat...10 wins.

Like your attitude and I agree. 10
Wins is a real possibility with our offense. A healthy D will help also.

A Defense that can force punts once in a while. An offense that can reliably convert 3rd downs.

I predict that the Cowboys will win their first game against the Niners, and everything after will be glorious.

When the Cowboys lose their first game of the season in Week 17 when they rest their starters, the forum will go into complete meltdown mode as fans will want the heads of Jerry and Garrett.

Meanwhile, a QB controversy will arise as Brandon Weeden goes 12 - 25, 145 Yards, 1 TD and 2 INTs in a fantastic performance against Washington in the loss. The usual suspects will point to these statistics as the ideal way for a QB to preform and ask why Romo can't do the same every week.

As the Cowboys go 15-1 and are the #1 seed in the NFC, they go 2 - 0 in the playoffs, defeating the Bucs in the divisional game and the 49ers in the Championship game.

Lastly, the Cowboys beat the Broncos in the Super Bowl 43 - 8. Demarcus 2.0 will sack Manning 6 times, and Demarcus 1.0's head will explode.

Calvin Watkins, having nothing stupid and idiotic to say, will retire from ESPN and slink back to New York where he can suck his thumb and snuggle his Eli Manning blankie.

Finally. The universe will be in order.

Those Weeden stats looks like Romo stats week 17 against the Commanders in 2012.

A successful season would either be 1-15 and we get some new coaching in and grab us some top talent in the draft or 10-6 and a deep playoff run. The worst thing that could happen would be another season of 8 and 8, another excuse trotted to keep the same coaching around and another mid-first rounder. Either you improve this year or you go home.

Looking at the defense and schedule 8-8 would be better than the previous 8-8 seasons.
