If we could get our hands on Andre Johnson of the Houston Texans. I was reading something the othere day where a scout said "Romo is good, but a lot of it is the supporting cast"

I think a QBs life is SO MUCH EASIER when he knows his weapons are going to get man coverage. When I watched Brady a couple of weeks ago, I was stunned on how ordinary he looked. His front office arrogance has left the team devoid of bona fide weapons in the passing game. They drafted Chad Jackson, but they drafted him about 1 or 2 years to late. If they knew they would never reach Deion Branch's contract demands...they should have been getting their roster ready for his departure a lot sooner.

I like Romo, I now feel he is for real...but are OL is nothing special and our RBs are adequate. BOTH units however benefit from the bona fide Pro Bowl talent in the passing game. We know TO and Glenn have 2 years tops left in them. We are the Dallas Cowboys. Because of our visibilty, people always make us their Super Bowl. We cannot try and get by with diamonds in the rough at WR. Crayton is and will always be a 3rd. Hurd is an unknown...but at his best he will be a #2...and I am not even sure about that. We have to make this a priority.

So that brings me to my question for my fellow zoners (and yes I have longed for this guy for a long time)

There is someone in the state of Texas that plays football and plays the WR position. He is wasting away on a team that will not be winning anytime soon. In fact, that team should have traded away their QB for picks and drafted their hometown hero...who would have bought them some time to get their OL fixed

This person I speak of is Andre Johnson. I know most of us our spooked by the Joey Galloway deal...and it was dumb. But I would trade our 1st round pick for Andre Johnson. As I think about it...Mike Holmgred traded a 1st for Deion Branch and his reasoning was "Hassleback is in his prime, and I want to give him as many weapons as possible to take advantage of this window"

I know Parcells will never do it...we will probably draft another DL or LBer...but it will be a grave mistake to keep ignoring the offense. I like Romo, I really do, but even the greates have looked bad when the talent around them went south.

Do you guys out there like the guy AND would you trade for him?

A supporting cast always make a quarterback look better. What was Aikman without Irvin or Novacek or even Rocket Ismail? What was Montana and Young without Rice and Taylor? Who is Bradshaw without Stallworth and Swann? Manning without Harrison and Wayne?

Good quarterbacks become great quarterbacks on complete teams, that is the rule of thumb.

That being said someone has to accurately throw the ball no matter the talent surrounding him or else he'll be Rex Grossman or a fallen star like Brett Favre.

OK...but don't avoid the question...do you like the guy...what would you give up for him....and do you think crossing that bridge when TO and GLenn are gone is too late?

Johnson is good, he won't leave Houston because he is all they have to build around offensively seeming David Carr is rumored to be out of town by the offseason.

Johnson is a quality receiver but there will be no Joey Galloway type blockbuster trades to acquire him. To morgage the future like that has been done one too many times already. Dallas would only have conservative offers to make. If they'd be willing to take Patrick Crayton and a third rounder I would consider it. Nothing more to offer than that however, build through the draft.

I would give up a No.2 for him, nothing more. It is not saying our first round pick is going to be better but we still have some holes to plug (a pass-rush OLB, OL, etc) Hi, you never know who is going to fall on the draft and I want to keep the No.1 just in case.

I would consider trading for him, depending on price and opportunity, of course. He is a player that is indeed wasted in Houston.

Well...I think he is better than Deion Branch...and I believe Seattle gave up a #1 for him...he is also better than Booger McFarland...and the Saints gave up a #2 for him....he is also better than Brandon Lloyd and the Commanders gave u a 3 and 4 for him.....so if we are drafting in the low 28 - 32 range (hopefully #32:) )....then I would give up a #1....because I think it will take a #1. He is TO with much less tread on his tires....plus he would come with MUCH less drama than TO.....not saying I don't appreciate TO....I am just saying that we don't want to get caught with our pants down at the position.

And if we spend another 1st round pick on a LBer I am going to SCREAM!!!!!!! Parcells is one of the highest paid coaches in the NFL....he has spent a ton of 1st round AND first day picks on defense....he needs to coach the guys we have up. DeMarcus (1st round pick). Carpenter (1st round pick)...Burnett (2nd round pick). Bradie James (double digit signing bonus)....Akin Ayodle (big signing bonus).....we cannot ignore the other side of the ball....in fact, I would dare say the offense has been carrying this team in big games slightly more than the defense....so let's keep Romo loaded with options....IF Andre Johnson is available for a late 1st round pick....I would be upset if we did not get involved.
