I appreciate this post. I enjoyed watching some of that.

Here is the 2014 US Army All-American Bowl. It has some more guys from this draft in it:

32- Budda Baker, DB, Bellvue (Wash.) High - WEST (OREGON)
47- Dante Booker, LB, Akron (Ohio) St. Vincent-St. Mary - EAST (OHIO STATE)
9 - KD Cannon, WR, Mount Pleasant (Texas) High - WEST (BAYLOR)
15- Jamil Kamara, WR, Virginia Beach (Va.) Bishop Sullivan Catholic - EAST
6 - Todd Kelly, DB, Knoxville (Tenn.) Webb - EAST (TENNESSEE)
2 - Marshon Lattimore, DB, Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville - EAST
27- Christian McCaffrey, RB, Littleton (Colo.) Valor Christian - WEST (STANFORD)
67- Malik McDowell, DL, Detroit (Mich.) Loyola - WEST
28- Joe Mixon, RB, Oakley (Calif.) Freedom - WEST
14- Curtis Samuel, ATH, Brooklyn (N.Y.) Erasmus Hall (OHIO STATE)
17- Solomon Thomas, DL, Coppell (Texas) High - WEST

It is fascinating to see the prep stars and how it works out.

Yeah, I agree.

Just shows how much heart and mind play into success in football. Mental toughness and the ability to take hard coaching. Desire and competitiveness. Love of the game. Football IQ if not overall IQ (it takes both IMO, in most cases).

All of that is so important to becoming a great player. You have to be an athlete, of course... but without those intangibles, people just won't make it at the major universities and pros.

I am a believer in taking the player you like best at each round. Also, a need you didn't think you have can quickly turn into a need due to an injury, player losing a step, suspension, etc.

With that being said, I hope it lines up for a heavy defense draft. Dallas lacks the talent on defense to make things difficult for the elite qb's. It is an offensive league and all defenses give up yards and points. Although, right now this defense feels hopeless at times when playing against an elite QB. Until they can find a way to win some of those battles, I think that is what is keeping them from a super bowl for the short term.

Signs are pointing to defense, but draft day often offers up many surprises.

What would your reaction be to an offensive pick in the first round by the Cowboys

As long as it is the TE from the U or Ross (can't teach speed)

Definitely, Ross or Howard. I wouldn't be disappointed if Williams and Davis are the picks. But, I'm not as high on them as I am Ross and Howard.

We know Howard won't be there so I won't even entertain that. Corey Davis and Ross are the only offensive guys I'd take. With the RICO talk lately, and Witten still being here, a tight end wouldn't make sense unless it was a complete guy like Howard. Njoku still has a lot to work on.

There are two scenarios for them taking an offensive player in the first.

1. A player that is just too good to pass on slides down to us. I don't know if there is such a player in this draft and if they slid down to us that means there is a wart or two there somewhere. In other words this is a highly unlikely scenario where a top five talent falls to us.

2. The defensive players we like are taken before us and we could not trade up to get one nor trade down to get to our second tier of guys we like and add a pick. So they are looking at a defensive player they see as a 2-3 round player vs a possible offensive player they see as a 1st rounder. Even at this point I think they might stretch it and go with the defensive player.

I think it is their intentions to go defense because they know they need to get a starter or two in our secondary and hopefully another pass rusher.

I think they believe that this draft is heavy on DBs (combo of CB and S) that they can get at least one of those in the first two rounds that they believe can contribute/start this season and hopefully get at least on Pass Rusher who may not be a starter but will get plenty of time and chances to play due to Rod's rotation system.

I could live with it if it was a fast WR. I do not see them taking another 1st round O-Linemen. But I really do think the chances are slim. In fact I would suggest it is a lot more likely we trade up or down than take a player from the offensive side of the ball.

My thoughts exactly!

I seriously doubt it, since this is such a defensively talented draft. If that would be the case, I would trade down, collect more picks, & take a defensive player later on-period. We either take defense early & often, or we sit & watch Aaron Rodgers slice and dice us again this season. I know I'M not prepared to do that.
