Whatever happened to Joseph Randle?

A number of academic studies have found links between mild traumatic brain injuries, such as concussions, and the onset of mental illness and personality changes. Several people who know Randle also point out that he’s right around the age when many psychiatric disorders typically reveal themselves on their own.

Really the crux of the article right here. The guy is not right. Cowboys fans have pretty consistently ignored his mental issues - and I tend to think that the team cast him aside unfairly as well - and just assume he's an "idiot." That doesn't seem true at all.

Dang dude.
It's not often when a post changes my mind on a subject/person 180 degrees.
Thanks

Is this sport going to be able to exist in its current violent format for another generation?

I didn't think he had talent anyway, low on him when we drafted, upset when he was named starter, wish him the best in life but glad he's gone.

I see your point, but I don't believe it's the Dallas Cowboys responsibility to take care of the guy, besides the Cowboys are well known for doing more for players than any other team. It was Joseph Randles actions that ruined his future. We can debate whether it was "brain trauma" as a result of concussions all we want, but at the end of the day.. Nobody forced Randle to play football. He choose football, like many players, because he had the talent to get paid better than he ever would anywhere else. Players will gladly take the lucrative salary and wildly spend it without discipline or regard for thier future, yet thier employer is held responsible for thier health? No. It's a business and should be treated as such. The players have negotiated a players union for these matters. And I'll also note: I have a CDL license. If I go drink and drive on my off time and get arrested for DUI, lose my license, I'd surely be fired.. Do you think it's my employers responsibility to make sure I'm ok? The answer is no. It's my responsibility. Wish more people in this world would get that only you are responsible for your actions. And I'll end with..if Randle needed help and couldn't see that..well, that's when family and friends should have told him. Of course, you are who you surround yourself with.
jerry isnt obligated, but he is a billionaire, and could help him get treatment, if he would accept it.
Randle is obviously not right in the head, he did something in jail which I think added more time.
he should be getting examined for mental problems while in jail.

Tragic story. Randle really let a good situation slip through his hands. How much the blow in the Patriot game impacted things remains to be seen, but he definitely has some serious behavioral and mental issues that he needs to get help with. He needs to focus on that and not playing football again.

Good ol Carlton. I know this is horribly off topic but the other day I was watching old commercials on YouTube and I saw the 80's Pepsi commercial with a young Carlton and Michael Jackson. It made me think of all the young people that were involved with Michael Jackson Alfonso Robero(sp), aka Carlton turned out the best of all of them. In fact Alfonzo is probably doing the best out of all the child stars who turned into adults. Both in his career and personal life he did a good job transitioning from child star to adult. Good for him. Sorry sometimes my ADHD gets the best of me, but I had to throw some love out to Carlton.

In short, by now, it appears blatantly obvious that Randle has mental issues that confound him from making rational decisions. He has had too many episodes that clearly indicate that his mental demons, lack of self discipline and anger issues have continued to confound his recovery.

It's a tragic story, really. Lots of messed up dudes like him we ignore everyday who never had the talent or opportunity and also wind up like him, in jail and broken.

I hated watching this guy run, he always looked like his body was out of control. He had a piss poor attitude, kinda reminded me of Troy Hambrick. It was a great day when the Cowboys cut bait with this tool. Why they thought he could ever replace Murray is beyond me. This guy couldn't carry Murray's jock on his best day.

He is an after thought
