What's going on with our OL?

This was the 3rd preseason game. Our OL was supposedly playing together for about 3 quarters to build continuity and give Adams/Colombo more time to get rid of the rust. So what happened--besides the penalties? Did the OL fail to pick up blitzes or what? I thought I read somewhere that one of our OL players mentioned something about motivation.

Understand teams have down games and apparently, except for the performance of a very few, just about all players contributed to this effort. Hope this is a wake up call that we not as good as we think/hope and this team gets it's butt in gear cause other teams aren't going to pay any attention to our press clippings.

Hopefully this isn't going to be another season where we continue to be inconsistent -- not knowing which Cowboy team is going to show. Good teams are consistent teams and we haven't been that for several years.

Our CB situation is looming large as more of a problem given their play last night. While I can't wait for Newman to get back on the field, the rest of our CBs are something else. We've got 4 draft picks in 08, I sure hope we spend 2 of them on CBs (senior CB crop isn't that good but there quite a few good juniors who hopefully come out) & another one on RB (even if it's not McFadden. The other pick can be used as determined later. I'd rather sign a FA NT who can step in immediately to backup/succeed Ferguson when it becomes necessary.

the OL had trouble with everything...run blocking was terrible and they struggled with blitz pick ups alot, but they also got caved in on alot of 4 man rushes too...Columbo and Adams had very mediocre games...Davis had a couple of penalties on the same drive

I am still unimpressed with Tony Sporano as an OL coach, and think he's been one of the weak links of the staff since he's been here

if Newman and Henry stay healthy we'll be fine this yr at CB, but if either misses significant time we may have an issue

that must be why so many teams were after him for their staff

It is hard to tell sometimes in pre-season the games do not count and the vets who have jobs know this so sometimes the effort slacks off.

Houston played with more emotion and they wanted to win and played like it; the cowboys look liked they where ready to go home

So I have concerns is it from the lack of effort or bigger issue. I am not sure

Concerns I have start with the oline; part of the problem is Flo and Columbo are just getting into game shape which maybe why we had some of the issues tonight with the oline so we wait and see.

Secondary wow lots of blown assignments guys 10 yards away from wr the help safety not playing over the top and way out of position; some still playing the wr and not the ball (Reeves tackled the wr and all he had to do was turn his head for a pick:banghead:)

The other thing way to many missed tackles but that can also be caused by lack of effort

So one more preseason to go which means we will still not know anything.
Then the real season begins then we can find out what this team is really about

For the most part, our corners were playing 10 yards off, and we really didn't do much of anything with blitz packages.

If anything, it seemed like Wade wanted to merely just look at players more than anything else.

And yeah-it looked like Flo and Marc looked a bit rusty, which all but set the tempo for our poor OL play.

The only thing that concerned me was the lack of effort-I'm sure Wade will give his team a piece of his mind in the locker room for this, and all will be OK.

Who was after him? I know about the Saints. One isn't "so many."

Wow-we have ONE subpar game on the OL, and everyone's panicking here?

Heck-why not bench Flo, Marc, Davis, ALL of them. Fire Sporano, and hire one of the Hilton sisters to coach the line.

*sigh* Take a chill pill.

I panicked? Where?

You might want to schedule an eye exam or a reading comprehension test if you saw panic from me. I posted a thread about being "relieved."

with Flo this isn't new...he has been bad before...and it seems to be an on and off thing till about game 8 or 9 and than he starts playing a bit better every game

however this is the 2nd game Colombo hasn't look very good...he may just still be behind coming off surgery but he needs to play thursday I think he still doesn't seem to have his feet under him...

props to Ireland for drafting some olineman last year...Hey Jeff, draft more next year too and the year after that and so on

Thank God we drafted Free. He looked good before he got hurt. He should return to the practice field in about a week. He needs to get as much playing time as he can this year so he'll be ready to challenge for LT next year -- cause I really don't see us bringing Adams back and paying him the big bucks he will want.

Colombo needs get rid of some rust so he'll probably see a lot of playing time against Minny. Will be interesting to watch his play this year cause if he doesn't return to at least last year's form he could be challenged by McQuistan sooner rather then later.

David

If he sucked as bad as you say, you would think that he would have a ton of trouble finding work.
