Dez had a huge pass play down to the 2 yard line and Williams had a 80+ yard TD. Hard 2 extend those drives.

We could have run a bit more, but when the passing game is that dominant and run defense is the Bronco's strength, I don't see the logic.

Our passing defense is TERRY BELL and yet the dominate passing Broncos ran the ball 31 times to help their defense that was getting torched and needed a break after the 1st. Peyton could have easily passed for 500/5 but those 31 runs took that chance away for the betterment of a defense that was getting tired and scorched. All you have to do is look no further than the other team we just palyed and how the mixed up the play calls to help the ENTIRE team and not just the offense and scoreboard. They too could have passed for 500 but didn't, why? They do have the best passing game in the NFL.

The problem is we are injured and have no depth in the key area that makes this sort of defense style works, which is the D-Line. If you give a QB all day, especially one like Peyton Manning, he WILL torch you. We're generating zero pressure on the QB and they have all the time they need to exploit this defense.

it seems since the the Campo days we cannot cover a RB out of the backfield, remember those days where teams would nickel and dime the defense with RB out in the flats our right up the middle.

If your offense is seeing the defense get scored on 5 straight times for TDs, wouldnt it be wise to try to run some clock to play keep away? After getting torched in the 1st qtr, PM did exactly that! He slowed the tempo down with the clock running to give his exhausted defense a much need rest. So, yes if youre on the field as a defensive player you are praying the offense can give a sustained drive to give them a break so they dont have to play 73 snaps (66 coming after the 1st qtr) or 70 snaps vs SD (56 in the 2nd half). Thats too much time on the field (lack of rest boss) and if your offense is consistently only wasting 1:30 of actual game time then they are part of the problem.

Running plays keep the clock running on offense, thus making the game shorter but if your scoring too quick or failing to sustain drives over 1:30 then the byproduct is a worn out defense. They go hand in hand and Parcell used to stress a quick strike offense could lead to a fatigued defense and weve seen it here the last two games.

So lets recap, if your HC is seeing the defense get scorched it would be wise for him to tell the OC we need a sustained drive to give them some rest or to honestly keep them off the field as long as possible because they suck and can't stop anyone. This is not hard to understand despite the glorified 500/5! 334 plays are more than 25 teams and screams lack of rest despite your misleading TOP number!

OK let's recap.

The defense is giving up more yards per possession than 30 other teams.

You think the offense is partially to blame because its possessions aren't long enough.

The offense has the 6th longest average possession in the league.

I tell you exactly where our offense ranks in terms of TOP, and you call it misleading. You want the offense's possessions to be even longer.

Got it.

I think you're getting it. If they can't stop anyone, do everything in your power to keep them off the field. And you have all the power to simply run the ball more and keep the clock running. Your TOP (9th not 6th) is misleading because our defense has been subjected to 334 snaps (6th most in the NFL) (143 in the last 2 gms) while being 9th in TOP. They are being worn down and Hatch reiterated it! And part of the reason we are 9th in TOP is because of the TOs the defense causes.

We're actually 10th in TOP per game, not 9th.

We're 10th because the offense's average TOP per drive is 6th. These are the six offenses that have helped their defenses the most, in terms of staying on the field and letting their defense rest:
1 Colts 3:07
2 Panthers 3:03
3 Saints 2:59
4 Chargers 2:54
5 Falcons 2:53
6 Cowboys 2:46

Here are the offensive points scored by those same six teams:
1 Saints 134
2 Cowboys 132
3 Colts 125
4 Chargers 125
5 Falcons 87
6 Panthers 74

Looking at points scored, and time spent on the field, at most there are only 3 teams whose offenses have helped their defenses more: the Saints, Colts, and Chargers. How much help should a defense need?

Our opponents' average TOP per drive is 2:26, which ranks our defense 14th.

Again, per drive, offense 6th, defense 14th. That gives you, per game, 10th.

And we're 10th in spite of how many turnovers the defense causes (14th in takeaways per drive) -- not because of it. We're 10th in spite of the fact that our defense has subjected themselves to the 334 snaps, because they can't get themselves off the field. Our defense ranks 27th in punts forced per drive. It ranks 31st in yards allowed per drive. And again, our defense ranks 32nd -- dead last -- in touchdowns allowed per drive.

The problem has not been that the defense hasn't been kept off the field long enough. The defense has had more time in between possessions than 26 other teams' defenses. The problem has been that our defense can't make a stop.

I'll tell you what's wrong. We're missing our best pass rusher and run stopper in Anthony Spencer This Line just doesn't get any pressure on a consistent basis.
