What's so different from our opening game last year?

from our opening game last year

on the road, agaist a team that went 12-4 the year before. A team that has a great defense, and a solid offense.

Whats so differnt.

no LT to go against

More experinced Defensive players

a Kicker who can make FG (hopefully)

A more explosive O

And of course

TO.

So my question is, what are we so worried about?

Difference?

Our defense is better. Our offense is more dynamic. Our Oline is pass-blocking like gangbusters.

I'm pretty concerned. I worry that we're going to beat Jacksonville too badly.

I'm concerned every week we play; there is a small margin between winning and losing. Jacksonville is a good team and I expect their best. I think Dallas is very capable of going to Jacksonville and winning but I don't expect this to be a walk in the park.

I'm nervous because I view this as a true barometer game.

If we win and play well, then maybe all the Super Bowl contender hype is well-founded.

If we struggle and/or lose, then we're likely not the team we're hoping to be.

So I'm nervous because I want to see a good showing so I can continue to be excited about the rest of the year.

I know everything is leaning in the right direction, but I worry about the game plan and how we stack up personal wise. Dallas could be better and a good game plan and dumb things take it away.:bang2:

Let's face it, we got lucky to beat San Diego last year. They didn't have Gates and they still were within a few yards of winning it at the end.

Not to be pessimistic, but don't forget how badly the Vikings raped the Boys 1st string in the preseason. Hopefully that motivates the D to play much better. I'm not too concerned about the offense, TO and Drew should have good timing after this week, going into Week 1, go Boys!

Last year's SD squad, even w/o Gates, was more talented almost everywhere except for their secondary. The front seven's are a push, and even w/o Gates, I think only a crazy man would take Jax offense over SD's.

Oh yea cause i keep forgetting the Jags have a big time TE, and one of the bets RB in the NFL today right?

I'm nervous as well, always get that way during the season, every game. You never know what will happen. But I'll hold my SB talk until we've gotten through half of the season and we can better gauge injuries, how the OL is doing, kicker, etc.

They're all big games in the NFL but IMO we need the 1st 2 and I'll be very nervous until they're both in the W column.

Didn't you know that we got lucky on our close wins and our close losses were due to our ineptitude?

You will have to explain more

The chargers were inept to not give the ball to LT at the 3.
The Panthers were inept to get a stupid penalty when we kicked the FG.
The Chiefs were inept b/c they missed the FG.
The Eagles were inept to throw the INT to RW.

The Seahawks/Commanders/Broncos were lucky that we missed an easy FG.

There is a fine line between ineptitude and luck. Any team that loses a game does so because of some form of ineptitude.

That was exactly my point. I was agreeing with you, actually. Looking back ony post, I can see it may have been a bit murky.
When someone goes overboard and calls our close wins lucky and saying we were fortunate not to lose any particular game while not taking into account games that we had in hand and ended up losing is being intellectually dishonest.

I think things tend to balance out over the couse of the season as well, and eventualy the cream rises to the top.

In summation, you made a good point.:D

I think this is a winnable game. Jacksonville's offense is mediocre at best. Fred Taylor is old, Jimmy Smith is gone and Leftwich is so so. If we stop their run game we have a great chance because I don't see them having the guns at WR. Having said that, JAX has a good D and they are home which is always woth 3 points to a good team. This will probably be low scoring. 17-13?

I'm always extra nervous at the first game of the season. It seems that so much rides on it, and other than offseason, I have no point of reference on our actual talent level.

True, the prospect of going through an entire week with a loss hanging over our heads makes me nervous.

Quite frankly, I'm a wreck during games.
